I havea 2002 toyota camry with around 104000 miles on it. It has been a really comfortable ride till now. Just recently the sound of the engine has become louder, before it used to be a gentle hum.. also at low speeds the car hesitates a bit...it becomes better at high speeds. sometimes the rpm goes high, but the speed of the car remains low....recently took it for oil change and stuff...the condition of the oil is okay...no other problems

A light knock at the top of the engine, or ticking, is the valve gear. This is not a worry if it eases when the engine is hot. A heavier knock down lower indicates trouble with the engine bearings, and this will usually get louder as the engine becomes hot. These problems have arisen in Camrys due to engine oil sludging. This starves the bearings of oil and they wear quickly. Toyota says it affects engines up to a 2001 build, but I have heard of 2002 engines being affected as well. Toyota insists it is due to owner neglect, but they have taken it on in limited circumstances:
A light rattling sound when the engine is under load indicates you should try a fuel with higher octane rating, although this would be unusual in your model unless you are using a fuel with high ethanol.
it sounds like the timeing is out ......... the crank shaft and the cam - cams must be in line with engine marks on the block .. u can not see them unless u take the plasticks off the front and inspect them ...this is a comen problem when people dont take care lining every thing up .... it makes the car run very rough and looses power .. it can also bend valves and damage pistons witch then costs a small fortune to fix ... were u got it done must fix this under worenty straight away ..... in other words take it back
yes it is a very expensive repair, they (whom ever they are) may have seen a coolant stain on the area around below the pump under the car, if it goes it can overheat and cause serious engine damage very quickly. have u been under the car to look?
I really hate to say this but it sounds like you need to take this car to another shop, one that specializes in electrical problems. Try going to a couple of diffrent auto parts stores and ask around. They will know who is good on electrical. Also if you live in a state where you have a emissions test done if your check engine light is on it probably won't pass.
