SOURCE: Food in freezer is thawing, compressor very hot to the touch

It sounds like the motor to the circulating fan is wearing out . This fan is hard to diagnose as it will spin the blade , but as you said it will not spin fast enough to circulate air thru the freezer and refrigerator. The motor is DC non brush type. It will cost a minimum of $300.00 to repair/replace this fan assembly, but it is worth that compared to replacing the refrigerator

SOURCE: food is unfrozen, but thermometer says temp is 28.

This is truely sad that you lost the food. Your temp gauge is definately not working it sounds like.
Is your circulating fan working?
Sometimes they stick and need a shot of WD 40 and then work
it back and forth a little until it wants to take off again. Keep me informed

Yesterday the door on my 14 cubic ft upright freezer did not stay shut tight (it was ajar about 1 inch for about 6 hours). When I became aware I closed and locked the door to be sure it stayed shut, but...

it may take upto24 hours to settle to -18C,remember it has to cool right through the food in the freezer,as well as the walls.also if the food went soft, it is spoilt......cook meat asap then refreeze.

Got home from vacation to a freezer full of food that seemed to be 'soft'....power did go out while away but was up when we got home. I can hear the freezer working but the food is not doing so good!

you dont say how long the power was off but if food went soft, chuck it,or cook the meat and then refreeze it,everything else is spoilt and will last no more than a month tops....from startup the freezer will take about 24hours to get cold(-18C)

Ice on back wall of freezer, food not staying completely frozen

Do you have the complete model number from the tag on the freezer, it should be either on the bottom rail visible with the door open or on the side wall near the front. I am trying to look this up to see if it is an automatic defrost model, if so you may need to do more than just unthaw and adjust

Thanks

New fridge is creating icecles on the top and door inside of freezer.

This problem can mean outside air is getting in. Look at your door seal, is it cut or crimped or out of its sattle. Another pos. problem is defrost. During the defrost cycle heators turn on and cause steam inside to rise up and collect at the roof, then refreeze, check the back panel for a good tight fit inside, is it bent or warped? That will let out the steam vapor that should stay right at the evap coil.
