did not read my post; I want to find out all users who are connected to same access pt as me
this is easily done if you can login to router
    view dhcp clients eg.
however cannot login wirelessly or hardwire as I explained, not an option
the rep explained if my ip was(eg 192.168.178
    then I would ping 192.168.179, 177, 180 etc
This is tedious and firewalls block this, also this will not give computer name currently online w his ip address to that computer

the best way was w net view or net views cmd prmpt, however options after using this
    is hard to understand
ipconfig/all for some reason gives me error

net view says server name not currently avail
please research this further, thank you

this gives me 3 columns local foreign and state
I see my ip address in there along w 4 numbers at the end

I tried this on a network that I was Able to login to active dhcp clients, only showed myself and 1 xxowner
why is this showing plenty of "foreign" addresses unusual ip addresses that are not even similar to mine?
This is best solution so far, but please explain the 3 columns and what are all the other ip addresses that are 'foreign'?
    Please explain, thank you.

  • JOE Nov 18, 2009

I used your method netstat n , I am coming up w 3 columns, local address foreign address and state
I see my ip under local address along w 4 more digits eg:, 1634 etc
What are these last 4 digits after my ip address separated by colon?
under foreign I see 127.0.0 etc w colon etc
then 3 ip addresses very much different than my ip address, all under state say established
2 of them come up for isp's, one for a security intrusion system
I don't see any rt now similar to my ip address format, so would mean at this moment there are no other clients connected to this acc pt besides myself?
    You response please
    Thank you.

I would suggest using a network scanner, which will allow you to discover all the machines on your network along with any information they allow to be seen about them (machine names, IP addresses, shared resources etc.)
The one I use is Softpedia Network Scanner, which is quite comprehensive, and free. Please be prepared to wait some time for the network device discovery tasks to finish - it may even seem that the application freezes - but be patient.
It will suggest the IP address range based on your network settings automatically, so all you need to do is start the default scan.
Here's the link:
Have fun :)

Hello there Fixit2009,

From the command prompt, type:

arp -a >iplist.txt

This command this will create a text file named "iplist.txt". It will be saved in the directory where you initiated the command.

Next, close your command prompt and open the iplist.txt file thru a notepad or wordpad. It will list the ip addresses connected to the network.

Please let me know if this helps. Good luck!

Type in the following in the command line:

and press enter. The XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX represents the IP address. The -a resolves the host name. You will see the host name, or computer name, as the first line after you press enter. Here's how to determine the IP addresses.

Start by doing an IPCONFIG from the command line. Take a look at your IP Address. The first 3 octets are going to stay the same. Change the last octet. For example:

If your IP Address is, ping,, etc. If you do not get a reply from that IP Address, then the computer is not currently online.

Where do i find my ssid on my router

Out of the box your SSID should be linksys

You can find your ssid and change it by logging into the router interface, and checking the wifi settings. You will have to be connected with an Ethernet cable or use a computer that is already connected to your wifi network.

Start by getting the ip address of the router:
1.Press the "windows"+"R" keys (this will open the "Run" dialog box)
2.Enter "CMD" in the Run window, and press ok
3.In the Command Prompt window enter the following command "ipconfig" and press enter
4. locate the Ethernet adapter or local area connection if using an Ethernet cable. If you are using a wifi connection, you want to locate the wireless Ethernet connection.
5.Under one of those headings you want to locate the "Default Gateway" address. It will most likely be similar to one of the following: or
6.Open a web browser and enter the address you found under the default gateway.
7.You will get a login page for your router. Usually the login formation is as follows:
admin/leave the password blank
9.Once you have logged in you want to locate the wifi/wireless menu on the page.
10.Here you will find the SSID of your wifi network

Type "ipconfig /release" in the Windows Command Prompt and press "Enter."
This releases the current IP address of your computer.
Type "ipconfig /renew" and press "Enter" to obtain a fresh IP address.
When renewing your IP address, Windows automatically attempts to connect to the network.

Unplug both the Internet modem and wireless router's power adapter from the electrical outlet. Wait for two minutes.
Plug the Internet modem into the electrical outlet first. Wait for connectivity lights to appear.
Plug the wireless router's power adapter back into the electrical outlet.
Confirm that lights appear on the router indicating that it has established a connection to the modem.

Limited or no connectivity to wifi.

Do the other machines on the network connect to the internet?
If so, you know its a problem with your wifi settings. Try opening a command window: start>all programs>accessories>command prompt. In this window type: ipconfig /release and press return. Then type: ipconfig /renew and return. This will assign a new ip address to your machine. If it is a problem with the network you will need to reset the modem/router and reconfigure it with your ISP details.

I don't remember my network key,so I cannot use it

Try to connect you computer with an Ethernet cord. If the Internet is working check the default gateway of the computer by typing "ipconfig" on the command prompt. Type the default gateway on the address bar. There you will see the login page for your wireless router. Check the default username and password from the router's manual and enter it. If it accept the user name and password, look for the wireless settings, password should be seen there. If not create a new one. If default user name and password doesn't work reset the router. There should be a reset button or pinhole on the back of the router. Press and hold it for 10seconds. Try again typing the default gateway on the address bar then re enter the default user name and password. If it work your router now do not have a network key (unsecured). You can create a new network key on the router's configuration page.

I cannot connect my Literati to WIFI

Ok! This is what I fund out personally. The WiFi connection needs to be a non-hot Wifi network. Meaning certain Wifi connections have a security lock preventing any file transfers. I tried several locations to make a connection (Coffee shops, Mc D's, Library, Work, etc.). The Best wy to connect your Literati is to find a friend who has a WiFi ruouter and ask him/her of there password temporarly.

Now you need to enable the Wifi under the settings area by hitting the menu button ans scroll down to the settings tab. select the Wifi or wireless option. Enable the Wifi and your unit should start scanning the area networks. This is where you'll find your friends link or an open unsecure network. Do not select any links that have a pad lock unless your know there password. Once you join, wait about 1 minute and the unit will prompt you to update the software. From here it all down hill..

I cannot connect to wifi in my ipod touch

Change the router encryption or create an encryption as WEP using your Zyxel router.

The connection in your college is maybe unsecured or no security?

- Try also to check the settings of your router make that unsecured or configured a WEP encryption to the router.
- Turn off the MAC filtering of the router (Under advance settings)
- Disable the wifi-protected setup of the router (Under advance settings)

- Refresh the network list before reconnecting to the network.

Note: As we try WEP encryption to some of the router, the IPod can connect to the network.
