Hi,

To add to the comments of the expert fieldy14

**Please be aware - replacing the Magnetron on your Microwave is a highly specialized job. The Magnetron is the main engine of the microwave and carries extremely high and lethal levels of voltage even when the machine is completely disconnected from its power supply.

This voltage has to be properly and fully discharged before any work can commence on the circuitry and I really do not recommend that you attempt this procedure unless you have a highly advanced knowledge of electronics.**

Also if the magnetron is actually at fault this repair is going to be expensive as it is a main component of the microwave so you will need to consider whether this really is a viable repair to carry out.

Safety First!!!

There are other possibilities as to why your microwave is operating at reduced power and I would recommend that if you decide to proceed with a repair then have the unit checked over by a qualified tech and have them quote for a cost rather than taking this on yourself.

Hope this helps. Many thanks for using FixYa.

I have found the main cause for this problem is a magnatron assemble that is becoming faulty. I advise changing the Magnatron. Good Luck.

How do you change the power level?

On most brands, you enter the cook time, then press the "Power Level" key, followed by the using a single digit key for the desired power percentage, then hitting "Start".
EXAMPLE: Too cook for one minute at 30% power:
Time Cook > 1 > 0 > 0 > Power Level > 3 > Start
A possible alternative key combination may be:
Time Cook > 1 > 0 > 0 > Power Level > Power Level >Power Level > Start

Difference between a convection oven and a conventional oven

A convection oven is equipped with a fan to speed the circulation of heat around the food, thus cooking it faster and more evenly than conventional ovens.

Conventional ovens rely on radiant heat that rises from the bottom up to the top of the oven. Convection ovens cook foods approximately 25% faster than conventional ovens, and the oven temperature can be reduced by 25°F for most foods.

No special cookware is required. Just like conventional ovens, convection ovens can be gas- or electrically-heated. As with any major appliance, it is always best to carefully read the manufacturer's guidelines and instructions for operating the oven.

My microwave want cook

Hello

and/or circuit breakers, particularly in the case of recent power failure, and reset if necessary.

Unplug the microwave, wait 30 seconds and plug back in to the power supply to reset the microcomputer.

Open and close the microwave door firmly and press "Stop/Reset." Select a new cook time and press "Start."

Ensure a proper cooking temperature and/or time is chosen, as low cooking temperatures or short cooking times may prevent the microwave from heating food appropriately. Press "Power Level" to ensure the microwave is cooking at 100 percent power.

Contact an authorized service technician if the problem is still unresolved.

Hi. Some steam is ok. But when it is running it should be sealed up. The little rocker should be doing it's thing too. Good luck.

I have a Kenmore Elite Mod 721.63683300. At first I would occasionally get an F9 error once every 5 or 6 times I would use it. Now, I no longer get an F9 error, but power is reduced to about 50% as...

No, the magnetron gets its power from the inverter assembly. The actual issue here is a defective or damaged inverter. Replacing the inverter assembly will correct this issue.

I have Emerson Microwave #mw8999sv which has the Express Cook option- cooking 1 - 6 minutes. How do I cook for 1 minute 30 seconds, etc.? Thank you.

The owner's manual is here. On page 10 we find:

COOKING IN ONE STAGE
1. Press the POWER button; the Microwave and High
Cook indicators will light and “PL 10” will light in the
display.
2. Press the POWER button different times to set the
desired power; the display will show the percentage
you chose. If selecting power level 70%-10%, the
Low Cook indicator will light instead of the High
Cook indicator.
3. Press number keys to set the desired cooking time.
OPERATION(CONTINUED)
4. Press the START/+30SEC. button to start cooking;
the Microwave and one of the Cook indicators will
blink and the display will countdown the remaining
cooking time in minutes and seconds. It will beep
five times when cooking is completed.

My mother just bought an Emerson MW8119 Microwave and can't figure out how to only set say 15 seconds cook time. Is it possible?

Hi! I just purchased the same microwave, and came online to find the solution. I was then able to find the correct answer to this problem. On this model, Emerson does not put a "time cook" button for odd cook times such as 15 seconds. Instead, they have you push the "Power Button" prior to setting the cook time.

If you want to cook on full power, press the power button once, and then enter your cooking time and press start. If you want to cook on 50% power or 30% power or something like that, push the "Power Button" several times until the appropriate power level is displayed, then enter the cook time and press start.

The reason that it starts up right away when *********** pushes the 1 button is because Emerson has the quick cooking feature for 1 minute through 6 minutes. You only have to push the number once to get the 1 minute cook time or anywhere through 6 minutes respectively.

Hope this helps!

Kenmore Microwave Oven Sudden Power Reduction

I would be sure to check the microwave's outlet under a load.

One good way is to use a toaster or hair dryer for about a minute to see if they run at full power and run without their heating elements dimming.

If the power at the outlet is steady, I would suggest a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.

If it still fails to heat properly, I would say you have a failing magnetron, and it would just be a coincidence that the failure began after the new wiring was installed.

If you need to order the magnetron, Sears sells it for $73.13, but you can get it for $41.84 here.
