No Audio coming from DVD source

I recently connect a Coaxial audio cable to my receiver (Denon AVR 588) from my DVD player, and at first i had sound then i messed with a couple input settings and now i have no sound through my DVD player. I tried to put the settings back to default according to the manual, but i still have no sound. Suggestions please.

Re: No Audio coming from DVD source

Press the input select button on front of receiver until auto is displayed it may be set for analog. Auto mode will play digital signal first then if it does not see a digital input it will check for analog signal. I would set it to auto for all inputs you may use.

First set the DVD player To mono and then see.
Check if the DVD assigned to coaxial input in receiver menu?
Check if the Digital out activated in player menu?

There are quite a few ways to connect cable box, DVD, receiver and TV together. At a minimum---Connections between DVD and a/v receiver: For Audio, either digital coaxial, digital optical or simple RCA (CABLE ONE); If you did not use RCA you need to connect Video with either component or s-video (CABLE TWO). For connection between a/v receiver and TV: either component, s-video or RCA (CABLE THREE) You did not mention how your cable (or sattelite) box is connected. You could use same set-up as between DVD and a/v receiver for another one or two cables depending on set-up used.

I have a Denon AVR - 391 receiver and was wondering the best way to connect my CD player to as there is no provision for CD player

Sure it does:

Analog RCA cables go to anything available: DVD; SAT/CBL; DOCK
Digital audio goes to whatever is available: COAXIAL (SAT/CBL) or OPTICAL(TV)

Can you tell me what are the functions of the two hdmi inputs, and the one hdmi output ,as my cable only works via the tv to the dvd player and a coax from dvd to the coax on avr, so hdmi on avr is...

Let's treat this as TWO functions - audio and video.

Your best video would be HDMI output (audio & video) from the cable box and EACH other video source (BD/DVD) directly to your TV and receiver. But, I'd still WATCH the video from the direct TV connection. The fewer intervening cables and electronics, the better.

Your best audio performance will come directly from each multichannel source via a digital (HDMI, coaxial or optical) cable to the receiver. I would LISTEN to audio through the receiver for best quality.

See a trend here? TV's best at video; receiver is the master of audio.
And neither one adds much by handling the other. Usually the opposite.

You mention coax. Do you mean coaxial digital audio????? As coax is also shorthand for the thick black cable bringing video to most cable boxes, connecting antennae to TV's and such.

You don't actually define what the problem is. Only YOU can be the judge of what 'better' is.

There are a multitude of (mis)settings you should master before declaring a hardware problem. I'd dive into the manual.

Denon AVR-1908 speaker issue

Before we play taps and throw dirt on top of the Denon, perhaps a bit more triage is in order. I'm not certain who the patient is. Especially when you have "speaker issue" in the title. Are you saying there are some speakers that don't work ONLY with BluRay?

If it has NEVER worked the (unnamed) BD player or its cable(s) could be at fault, too.

What 'connections' are we talking about. HDMI, coaxial- or optical audio, 5.1 analog; to what input on the Denon assigned to what function?

Have you tried all audio paths out of the BD player? Is it configured to squawk in the right digital mode?

Do you have any other digital audio sources (CD/DVD) you could use to certify the audio paths that don't work with the BD player?

No audio on Denon AVR-588 from digital sources

If it is set to automatically detect connections then by default it will send signal to the one with the highest bandwidth, much like back in the day when you might have S video and composite connected simultaneously to the same input. So if you have your HDMI input assigned to DVD it will output that over optical or coaxial.

No HDMI video output from AVR-588 receiver to plasma TV ???

the avr-588 apparently cannot carry sound via hdmi - don't know why; just what i found out from the geek squad at best buy; solved the problem by connecting optical cable from cable box to receiver; be sure to change the input on the receiver for opt-2 (system setup >2 inputs) to correlate with tv

Help with audio sound

Had the same problem - have a 3-yr old Sony DVD without hdmi - used RGB for video (hooked it up directly to tv) and optical cable for audio (connected to OPT-2 in receiver) and problem solved. the standard red/wht audio cables also worked.

Optical Audio Connection

My only thought is to make sure there are no protective covers over the ends of the optic cable. They often come with plastic caps. Either that or you have a bad optic cable if neither the DVD or DVR work with that cable. Good luck!
