If the laptop runs fine in safe mode, the problem is typically either a bad driver that is loading OR a newly installed program / hardware that is interfering with the Operating System. More info is needed: - what OS is on your laptop - what, if any, error messages are appearing - are you getting the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) with normal booting - have you installed any new hardware or software on this laptop (USB, PCMCIA cards, modems, etc) It is good news that your system runs in safe mode - and this typically can be fixed without too much trouble.

Resetart the laptop and choose "Debugging mode". This will show the list of files that loads during the initial boot up and OS starting. Reply with the last file listed before the BSOD.

If the BSOD occurs after the logging, list where it occurs (during the "Starting Windows XP window" or "after the desktop appears but no desktop icons".

Also, provide what OS is on the laptop.

1. Try booting the Computer to the "Last Known Good Configuration" and check.

2. Try removing any unwanted Application from the Startup in the Safe Mode.

In the Safe Mode, click on Start, select the option Run, type "msconfig" in the Run command and then press the Enter key (for XP Operating System).

For Vista or Windows 7 Operating System, click on Start, type "msconfig" in the Search area and press the Enter key.

In the MS Configuration Utility, un-check any unwanted or un-known items under the Startup Tab, click on Apply then OK and restart the Computer in the Normal mode.

3. If the issue persists, try performing the System Restore operation in the Safe Mode from Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore.

NOTE: The System Restore procedure will restore the Registry and other settings back to the date and time selected. No data will be lost. Saved documents and e-mail will not be affected by performing a System Restore. Any Hardware or Software that has been installed after the date of the restore point will need to be reinstalled.

4. Ensure that the Computer is not infected with Virus. Scan and clean the Computer using any Anti-virus Application in the Safe Mode.

This should resolve the issue.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!

White screen appears, Screen turns fuzzy intermittently

To determine if the video card is faulty or the LCD screen, connect an external monitor to the laptop. Power up the monitor first and then the laptop. The video will automatically switch to the monitor. If you see a normal Windows image the the video card os OK.
The next thing is to reseat the video cable and if this doesn't fix the problem then the fault is the LCD screen.

My monitor is not connected to the computer but everytime i turn it on the whole screen turns blue, then yellow then white etc.. how do i fix it

That could be normal operation if it is not connected. Does it do the same when connected? If so, try another monitor. Does the computer power on normally otherwise?

Acer Aspire 5585 Laptop LCD Problem

Have you tried booting into "Enable VGA" mode via the "Windows Advance Option" screen? By press F8 before Windows XP loading screen comes up. In this mode the Video Card drivers are disabled. So if your screen appears normal and not white in this Mode then it is your video card drivers which are causing the issue.

PC or monitor, signal problems

your monitor is telling you it's on it's last legs..either that or your compaq has a bad video section. either is more vital than a video cable being loose.
