Maxkath,

I see that you have several posts for the same issue. Again, rather than retype something that has already been typed, I've copied the link to the knowledge basetest page prints every time printer turned on - 2.gif article below.

HP 1315 printing real slow

If there are a compatiable black cartridge
replace this cartridge with your old empty cartridge and print a test page (don't mind about printing of black )
If speed is correct,
then replace the black cartridge with another new cartridge.
(some time compatiable black cartridge not work properly to flow ink)

Print cartridge missing

Please remove the cartridges from the printer. Take a dry lint free paper towel and gently wipe the contacts on the back of the cartridge (not the bottom from where ink is present). Wipe the contacts inside the printer (on cartridge carrier). Please snap the cartridges back into the cartridge carrier.

Next, try this printer self-test by following the steps given below:

1. Please turn OFF the printer.
2. Press and hold the "Color copy" button.
3. Now, turn ON the printer.
4. Once you see "0" on the display, release the "Color copy" button.
5. Press the Up arrow button until "2"appears on the display.
6. Press the "Black copy" button to start the self test. Once the page has printed, the printer will stop printing.

The self-test should at least print out a set of either black or color bars, if not both (if you have a printer with both color and black installed simultaneously). Should this test fail, try it again without cartridges installed. If the self-test still fails to take paper in and make sounds like the carrier is moving across the paper, this is a hardware issue, and the printer will require service. If the self-test completes without any cartridges installed, run the self-test again with the color cartridge installed by itself. (If you have both black and color cartridges, after this test, run the test again with just the black cartridge installed.) If you find that either cartridge causes the self-test to fail, please let me know.

If the self-test prints, but has lines or smudges or other print quality issues, let us know. This includes any print quality issues, we need to know if the problems you have with your black or color are based in the printer, or communications with your computer, or the computer's software.

If the self-test prints your test bar(s) clearly, the printer hardware is not at fault.

Test page printing at the time of printer powered on

s.gif Solution minimtop.gif The product aligns the print cartridges every time that print cartridges are installed or replaced to ensure the highest-quality prints. The alignment page will continue to print every time that the product is turned on or off until the alignment process is completed. NOTE: If you remove and install the same print cartridge, the unit will NOT align the print cartridges. The unit remembers the alignment values for that print cartridge, so you do not need to realign the print cartridges. Follow the steps below, in the order presented, to correctly complete a print cartridge alignment. s.gif Step one: Remove the print cartridges minimtop.gif
  1. If the On/Resume button is not lit, press the On/Resume button to turn the product on. Figure 1: Press the On/Resume button to turn the product on c00316907.gif
  2. Make sure the paper tray is down and there is letter or A4 unused plain white paper loaded in the paper tray.
  3. Lower the access door until it stops. Figure 2: Lower the access door c00316908.gif Make sure the print carriage moves to the center. Figure 3: Print carriage in the center of the printer c00316909.gif
  4. Wait until the print carriage is idle and silent, and then, using your thumb, lightly press down on a print cartridge to release it. Figure 4: The print carriage c00316910.gif
    • If replacing the tri-color print cartridge, remove the print cartridge from the slot on the left.
    • If replacing the black print cartridge, remove the print cartridge from the slot on the right.

  5. Pull the print cartridge toward you out of its slot.
s.gif Step two: Install the new print cartridge minimtop.gif
  1. Remove the new print cartridge from its packaging and, being careful to touch only the black plastic, gently remove the plastic tape by using the pink pull tab. Figure 6: Remove the tape c00312625.gif 1 - Copper-colored contacts 2 - Plastic tape with pink pull tab (must be removed before installing) 3 - Ink nozzles under tape CAUTION: Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or ink nozzles. Touching these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.c00312564.gif
  2. Slide the new print cartridge forward at a slight upward angle into the empty slot. Using your index finger, push the print cartridge forward until it clicks into place. Figure 7: Insert the print cartridge c00316911.gif
  3. Close the access door.
s.gif Step three: Align the print cartridges minimtop.gif If you are installing a new print cartridge, the product begins to print a print cartridge alignment sheet. This may take a few minutes.
  1. Lift the lid of the product.
  2. Place the top of alignment page face down in the left front corner of the glass. Figure 8: Place the alignment page face down c00316913.gif
  3. Close the lid.
  4. Press the Scan button.
  5. The On/Resume light will blink during the alignment process.
  6. After the On/Resume light stops blinking, alignment is complete.

HP Photosmart C3100 series BEWARE SPAM NUMBER 1-800-532-4187

I just got off the HP help line.  After changing my black ink cartridge a test page was printing each time I turned the machine on.  This is very costly, in both time and ink as the cartridges themselves for this machine hold very little ink.  I tried to learn from HP tech how to turn off the test-print while keeping my color cartridge empty.  It turns out that you cant do it.  HP requires you to keep buying and using cartridges whether you need them or not.If you buy the color ink it will use it up in its testings.  And if you dont buy the color cartridge it will use up your black ink by printing the test each time you turn on the printer.  The printer was inexpensive sure, but I'm paying for it in wasted ink.
