Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

Have a Amana a/c heater central furnace. Model number PGA30R0452A. The a/c part works fine. The heater part does not turn on sometimes. We have to keep turning it on and off to get to work. No matter what you hear a slight humming when we turn it on just it doesn't always blow air out of the vents. It also does not always kick back on once the temp. has dropped and should start heating the house again. We have programmable thermostat. Any suggestions to whats broken or breaking. My husband would like to fix it himself we dont really have the money to call someone out to do it. Thanks.

When you change from cooling to heating the fan will not come on immediately. A solenoid valve is energized (check that it is working) and operates a reverse valve, changing the gas flow in the system. It takes a few minutes for the system to build up sufficient heat and then the fan will come on. The humming sound is very likely coming from the solenoid valve. Make sure the air filters are clean. Obstruction caused by dirty air filter can prevent the air sensor from sensing the return air temperature.

Furnace turns on with flame then turns of then restarts

This could possibly be your flame sensor. It will be positioned at the end of one of your burners to detect a flame. Sometimes they can be cleaned and work fine. Replacing them isn't that bad either, just take your old one with your furnaces model number to a local supply store and they can get you fixed up. Hope this helps!

I need a part number for a pressure switch for an Amana Furnace GUCA070BX40

Check this out. You ave to apply negative pressure to make the reed switch click, that means you have to apply suction to the switch to check it. most of these switchs ain't the problem. Blocked tubing yes bad switch naw.

Need to locate filter on model PGJ042100-1

Filters are usually added to the sheetmetal seperate from the furnace. All air must be filtered before entering the furnace. Turn on heat and feel ductwork to determine which direction air flow goes, warm will be supply and room temp. will be return. Filter should be on return side of furnace. Some of them may be filter grilles located in a central reurn on older homes with only one return in a hallway or sometimes the correct ductwork is not installed and they are inside the bottom panel where return ducts connect

You will have to look in the furnace to see what color wire goes to the varios terminals on the furnace it should be labeled R,W,G,Y record the wire colors to the terminals in the furnace and wire the thermostat accordingly.

I just had the furnace installed six months ago and have used the air condtioner over the summer but never the furnace. When I went to change the controls for the furnace use, the blinking ''change...

Hi, sometimes depending if the unit is an up flow or down flow that depends where they put the filter. If you don't have a return grill in the ceiling, then it would be in the bottom of your furnace. I am sure its hard to remove as it is new, but i am sure it is there.Sometimes there is a grill on the lower wall beside the furnace they could have put it in. They may not have installed one? Good Luck, Sincerely, Shastalaker7

The hot water and central heating wont work together

what size of gas line is going into boiler and water heater? is it black iron ? natural gas or propane? have you checked gas pressure at water heater and furnace ? if they work fine individually then you have a problem with incoming gas pressure. Call gas company and ask them if they would come out and check gas pressure.
