Question about Maytag MSD2454G Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

I have been noticing water leaking from under my fridge. I just now saw in the back of my freezer some type of coil or element red hot like the element in the stove. And the water was running down from the back of my freezer, to the front of the fridge and leaking on the floor. It happens every few hours. What should I look to replace of repair?

Your freezer cabinet need to get all out and open the back wall
there is a drain hole in the bottom middle of it make sure it is
clean and if you pure water they go all the way
through the pip to the drain pan next to the compressor.
good luck 911servicetoday . com

Water dripping into fridge from freezer. noticed red hot element in back of freezer behind vent inside freezer

Heater glow behind frz back wall is normal during auto defrost cycle. This happens about 2 or 3 times a day for approximately 30 to 45 minutes. The water migrating into the fresh food section could be from a blocked drain tube which should be be in the area directly under the red glow you noticed. Should be a hole going through the floor into the drain pan under the refrigerator. Force hot water down hole until it flows freely.

Having thermostat problems in my Maytag fridge/bottom freezer. Pulled the fridge out and vacuumed everything. This am the copper coil on the back outside is leaking water drop by drop. The coil is not hot/...

The copper coil on the back comes from the compressor and is what makes the fridge cold but it is filled with gas. They can condensate and drip water but this isn't usually enough to notice, or cause damage. I would actually suggest looking again to check the exact source of the water. Be aware that some water from the defrost cycle is supposed to drip into the evaporator tray at the back.

Have a TFX26ZPDA that occassionally leaks from front freezer corner. notice of leak anywhere, but find water under the fridge on the floor (facing fridge left bottom)..........why is this

I would check the bottom of the freezer. If its a solid block of ice then you have a frozen drain line. You may have to remove the back panel to access the drain or on some models there is a gap there its located in the back. If you take a turnkey baster and fill it with hot water and keep shooting it down the drain line it should eventually thaw out. The water is coming from your evaporator coils when they defrost.

Hope this helps _MJ_

American fridge/freezer - fridge stopped cooling, freezer side ok

Have you pulled out the refrigerator and cleaned or used a vacum cleaner to get out the dirt and dust off the back of the coils, or if the coils are underneath, you need to get an inexpensive appliance brush for fridge, and clean the coils under the fridge, pull off the panel on the front bottom of the fridge, get a flash light and look to see if the coils are covered in dust....may just need to vacum and use appliance brush underneath...this should be done at least one a year, you will notice your fridge running much better and cooling back to normal.......hope this helps......

Water dripping in the freezer We have side by side kenmore fridge and freezer and filtered water. I just opened the freezer and heard dripping of water behind back cover. It sounded as water is hitting...

this IS normall. the freezer is just in defrost cycle. the heat elements are on and defrosting the evaporator. you are hearing the water hitting the elements and running to the drain. this is normall, does it every day, just the first time you happen to notice it. shane

Drip pan needs emptying; had repairman out for other issues, now fridge keeps overflowing

The accumulated ice you saw is of course the source of the water. The refrigerator will eventually rid itself of the excess ice and the problem will therefore disappear on it's own after a while. The drip pan is normally filled with only a small amount of water, and that is dried up by the condenser cooling fan under the fridge. The pan is removable from most units, but not without making a mess. I suppose you can make and clean up the mess one time and be done with it.

STANDING WATER ON TOP SHELF

If the freezer is on top then empty out the freezer and remove the bottom and back liner of the freezer compartment usually phillips screws. In the back you will see the freezer coils along with a defrost element. Below these two items u will see a drip tray that collects water from the coils on defrost cycle, in the center of the pan will be a drain hole that connects to a hose that leads to a pan under the refrigerator.Normally the water is collected there and evaporated. The hole in the tray in the freezer is clogged. Thaw it and clean it until you can pour water in it and it goes to the pan down below. please rate me

Not Freezing/Cooling - A Red Glow...

  • the defrost timer and bimetal thermostat have apparently both malfunctioned. (rare)
  • if someone has worked on it in the past they may have bypassed the  bimetal thermostat.
  •  the bimetal thermostat turns off the heater if it gets too hot (above 45 in the freezer)
  • and the defrost timer is only supposed to stay in defrost for 8 minutes or so.
  • so considering the heater was on and it was hot in the freezer is evidence of these two components not doing their job.

Frigidaire GLRT214RAW4 Water Collecting On Shelves

It is most likely the defrost timer, the defrost elements or a leak in the door seal or a blocked drain tube leading down to a pan under the refrigerator.
Water should be removed every 8 hours with the defrost timer telling the defrost elements inside the back of freezer (and out of view) to get red hot like the parts inside a hair dryer. If temperature in freezer increased any today I would consider calling someone to either replace the timer or fix the elements. Now if the door gasket is buckled the warm air will enter condensate and also cause the same thing. If you notice a temperature increase in the freezer and fridge, it's time to act soon before the food begins to spoil, Hope this helps, Sea Breeze
