I already know what you have told me so far, sorry I did not make myself clear --it is not the springs what would be the next thing i am looking for as well as how would i tell which part is out of wack?

I have a kenmore stackable washing machine, what it going on is it sits a little off balance and eventually it unscrews the balance spirngs and it goes really off wack. I know to take the thing and open it which i have done and the springs look to be in good working order, what would I be looking for next as far as fixing hte problem as cheaply as possiable. This washing machine is only a few years old and from what I have heard this is pretty typical for this machine. thanks

i have already opened the machine up and checked the springs they are ok, my question is what is hte next part you would check, so on and so forth... and what would i be looking for as far as being off balance.
The machine is only a couple of years old and had the moter replaced.
    Thanks

It has nothng to do with the levaling of my washer, I am mechanically inclined enough to figure that one out. It is one of the parts in the machine. Please read the entire post.

    Thanks

I do have a little repair knowledge, amny washers with problems before.
    Thanks

  • jamie3482 Nov 18, 2009

No I havent noticed any grease, I have access to the bottom- it open and on the floor for fixing. What else do you suggest to look for?

  • jamie3482 Nov 19, 2009

I don't believe it is the springs because the tub sits at an angle without even doing anything-if I am wrong let me know- it looks to me to be the items holding up the tub.

Thanks for continuing to work with me on this issue, I will try teh things you suggested.

The outer tub is supported by springs, pistons or counterweights to keep it balanced. The weight of all that water in a wash load requires a powerful balancing mechanism. If the balancing system becomes detached from one or more points, it will not be able to balance the load properly. Furthermore, even if everything appears to be in place, as the appliance ages, the springs or pistons may begin to wear out and not support as much weigh as needed.
Unplug the washer and open the cabinet. Because of the variety of balancing mechanisms, you will have to inspect your machine to determine how it is balanced. Once you discover the mechanism, then inspect it for integrity. In the case of old parts that appear to be in working order, you may not be able to tell if they need to be replaced. They may be weak but appear to be in good condition. If no other solution resolves the problem, then replacing the balancing springs or other moving support parts may be called for.

Iam sorry its not working out for you. If you replaced the springs/pistons please ingnor this comment.

Iam sure I said even though they look fine they may be worn and unable to support and balance the load. I would replace them and see. best of luck

well it could be your imbalance has moved some tub mounts I have seen it before. Look and see if you see fatiged mounts. If you have it apart still measure the free length of the springs they should be relatively close to the same. Also check and see if the same amount of pressure yields the same amount of travel. If it does the springs maybe ok. Like I said the spring rate may diminish over time by use.

Sounds like your bearing or coupler is worn. Have you noticed any grease in the washer? That would indicate a bad bearing seal which is common. Youwill have to access the bottom of the tub to make sure. That is likely the problem.

Check the tub seal to make sure it is not ripped or stretched. The retaining spring clips that are attached to your drum probably have come off
(There are three or four of them) Push the drum to one side and look to
see which ones have come off and re-attach them to their anchor points,
you should have no more trouble. When loading your machine for the spin
cycle just make sure that all clothes are evenly spread around the
drums balance point before spinning out.

The drum is mounted with spring or rubber bushings that act like shock
absorbers. When machines get worn out they get very sloppy or even
break. When the machines get real bad they shake violently.

The tub mount or coupler is likely faulty.

Hello. I can assist you. First of all you are going to need two things to solve your problem. The first is a small level, you can get a twelve inch or so level from any hardware store, home depot, valu home center, etc. Also pick up a remnant of carpet that is the same dimensions as your washer.
Now Put the carpet remnant under the machine and check the level front to back and side to side. Adjust which ever legs you need to adjust by turning them with a wrench.
Once it is all level, load the clothes into it. DO NOT overload it, ever, usually half to 2/3 full of dry clothing is considered to be a full load.
Now run it and enjoy your good work. Regards, Joe

The drum is hitting the back of the machine

remove the bottom front panel (2 screws) look in and on the left and right side you should see 2 shockabsorbers. They probably need to be replaced. The 4 plastic pins need to be removed. I used a socket to compress the "flanges" and a hammer to tap them out.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

The sections on machine base or tub should give you a decent diagram of where the springs go.

Washing macine balance

Adjust the legs on the washer that seems to be the problem. Or you could have broken the hinges and springs on the tub itself. The easiest thing to try is the legs first they just twist like a screw

heres how to accces the washer insides

the washer being "off track" sounds as if perhaps a spring holding the machine centered has snapped, look toward the rear bottom unit there should be a spring going from the tub to frame holding it to the middle
