The ribbon motor is just below the ribbon on the right put some WD40 on the upper and lower bearings and also on the clutching mech. just to the left of it. If that dosen't work you will need either a motor or a board.

Ribbon sits higher than striking mechanism. Machine is not rotating it down into normal operating position. Any solution?? Tks

Take the ribbon off, watch the ribbon deck while typing and correcting. Is it making the proper movements, lower for print, higher for correction, is the ribbon motor just under the R. side or the deck moving? If the ribbon motor isn't moving check to see if its cable is connected and Put som WD40 on the upper and lower bearings.

the ribbon is not properly place, try to exchange the the ribbon first then press down if the ribbon is still loose, there is a 2 rubber roller holding the ribbon that holds it, if you press down the rubber holder goes with it in the upper corner ok

My Roland Rd-500 has no sound....the factory demo

You either did not get the ribbon cable seated OR got it upside down.

If this cable is the flat ribbon with exposed solder plated points of contact, OFTEN those connectors have a latch to release by GENTLY moving tabs on eaither side in the direction of pulling the cable out. This lock MUST be moved out slightly to allow the cable to seat properly. The solder plated contacts will be FULLY into the connector when seated properly.

These cables ALSO can be inserted backwards and NO connection will be made.

Brother SX 4000 stopped printing. Ribbon is

Remove and inspect the ribbon cartrige, wind the knob and make sure that the ribbon moves and reinstall. Check that the correction tape is installed properly. Check that the ribbon plate assembly is not in the correction position. Try CODE RESET (Q key)

Solenoid pad is worn out. Look below left of the printwheel down inside the carriage and you should see a little white or opaque rubber pad. It needs to be replaced. You have to take it to a shop for proper repair. I have in the past, replaced it by digging the old one out with tweezers and hook. Then fish the new one in there.

Don't know how to load and string the ribbon on an ibm selectric

Selectric III has two different ribbons the selectric II ribbon tha the ribbon guides are part of the macine and the "bicycle" ribbon that has the guides bilt into the ribbon. to replace the "bicycle" ribbon move pull the red lever on the right toward you, drop the ribbon in turn the knob a few times in the direction of the arrows, move the red lever back done.
The other style move the lever, drop the ribbon in, be sure the ribbon is left of the slacker finger sticking up on the left, thread it tru the guides, turn the knob inthe direction of the arrows, move red lever back, done.

Only part of the character/letter is showing

make sure the ribbon is latched into place (should lock down) also check on the ribbon itself to make sure the print is in the middle of the ribbon and not on the very bottom, if the ribbon is locked down and types of the bottom of the ribbon, it is out of adjustment. if the ribbon looks ok, move the paper scale (the plastic piece on top of the platen) up out of the way, then push down sharply on the platen. if it moves down and clickes into place, it should work OK.

Error code 754

It's very possible you are not installing the ribbon properly.
When loading a new ribbon on a Monarch printer, you must save the plastic ribbon core (it's butter yellow in color) from the previous roll of ribbon. The core is what the ribbon is wound up on.
Do not throw away this plastic core - you need it for the next roll of ribbon you load!
You have to move this now empty core from the back ribbon spindle and slide it on the front ribbon spindle. You then load the new ribbon on the back spindle and attach the ribbon end to the empty plastic ribbon core on the front spindle.
You CAN NOT just tape the ribbon to the front spindle. You must have an empty ribbon core to attach the new ribbon to. The printer will give a 754 error unless you have two plastic cores on the two spindles. It can also give a 754 error if the ribbon is not loaded properly, and also if you have a bad motherboard. There are no ribbon sensors, so that's never going to be a problem...

Ribbon Lift Eractic

Try the unit without the ribbon installed if the mech. seems to operate properly you may only need a new ribbon.  If the condition continues you may need a new ribbon motor or board.
