Question about Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+

Chamberlain Liftmaster Sensor Problem

Lately the sensors on either side of my garage door have been randomly going out. Of course, the door will not close and I end up manually opening and closing it. Then, magically, 2 or 20 or 200 minutes later, the lights come back on and it's business as usual. Today it happened again and after messing with it for awhile and being late for work, it apparently still doesn't work. WTF?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Jason

The sensor colors are correct. Try wiping the little eye sensors that point at each other for one thing and make sure there isn't something protruding from door that's coming into the patty of electric sensors.

Anytime the main light flashes 10 times and the door reverses to the open position it is a door sensor problem. They each have a small light that should be lit, both should be the same brightness and not flickering ever so slightly. If not tweak them a bit. If both lights will not come on you have bad sensors.

Check the wiring going to the sensors and make sure they are connected correctly at the motor unit. The solid white wires from each sensor go to terminal 2 and the wires with the black tracer go to terminal 3.

On the side of the motor unit you will find the 'down limit control'. Using a small screwdriver turn this control in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Some tweaking will most likely be necessary. You can remove the cover and watch the limit switch assembly and get a good idea how it works.
