The wire with the red stripe goes to terminal #1. There are 3 solid white wires that go to terminal #2 and the 2 wires with the black stripe go to terminal #3.

If your garage door is up, and you break the beam (by walking through it, for example), you will get the "SENSOR WIRING INTERMITTENT CONNECTION ERROR CODE 1-4 SEE USER MANUAL". This is normal. Both of my Liftmaster 8550 openers do this. It's misleading, but this is what I've found to cause this error.

If your sensors are not pointed at one another the light on one of them will go out. Tweak them a bit. If you cannot get the light to come on then your sensors are bad.

Chamberlain 102-1499A Opens w/ remote. Will not close w/remote.

If when you try to close the door the main light flashes 10 times and the door reverses to the open position you have a door sensor problem. Make sure they are pointed at one another and the small light on each one is lit and not flickering. If you cannot get both lights to come on you have a bad sensor.

Check the wiring going to the sensors and make sure they are connected correctly at the motor unit. The solid white wires from each sensor go to terminal 2 and the wires with the black tracer go to terminal 3.

Liftmaster 971LM opens but won't close correctly

Check the wiring going to the sensors to make sure it is not broken or disconnected. You have a problem with the sensors themselves or the logic board. Unfortunately the only way to be sure is to replace.
