Question about Canon ZR300 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

Uploading videos to computer

I have filled a whole mini DV tape with video footage and really want to upload it to my computer for editing, but when I plug my camera into the computer it is not even recognised as being attached via USB. I have seen someone else has this problem so I don't think it is the cable. Do you have any suggestions as to what the problem might be? I don't have any video editing software on my computer yet. Could this be it?

How do I transfer the footage I recorded to PC?

The USB cable is only to download still images recorded on the memory card, using the software that came with the camera. To download video, you need to connect to a computer with a Firewire cable, and have video editing software on your computer to communicate with the camera.

I have a Sony Handycam DCR-TRV720 Digital-8 Digital Camcorder. How can I transfer the video from these tapes to DVD? The cabling seems too old school to link up to my computer in order to burn a DVD.

This model has iLink: IEEE 1394 firewire port. If you don't have a firewire card, you can probably find one pretty cheap on the internet (try ebay).
Windows has movie maker, which when the camera is connected, will allow you to capture the video from the camera on the comptuer, although there is no DVD burner software at least on the XP version (not sure about Vista). I use Nero for the whole process: capture, edit, burn to DVD.

HVX200 shot footage - viewing footage on consumer grade camera

You can only view hd footage on hd devices. so if you recorded hd footage onto a tape, you will not be able to view it on a standard def camera, ie the dvx100b. The footage should not be harmed. Now if you are trying to view via p2 card over the firewire, whole new scenario.

I want to copy video footage from the tape to the sd card.

You cannot transfer the video from Mini-DV to SD card within your camera as your camcorder does not have this feature. If your purpose for finding this function is to transfer your footage to your computer, you may try using the firewire port in your camera to connect it to your pc.
If you need help with the firewire connection, feel free to post a follow up.
Hope this helps!
