It's not the hardest thing to fix in the world, but it probably will require you to open your XBox 360's case (if your warranty is expired or voided already). There are dozens of very good video tutorials around for opening the XBox, just search your favorite video site and find a video that matches your XBox case (Phat or Slim).

Ultimately, you'll need to unplug the SATA and power cables from the DVD drive, remove it from the case, and remove the four phillips screws. Once it's open, the rail and head assemble are very simple mechanisms. You should be able to see any obstructions easily as well as rail misalignment. Just reorient as needed and slide the head carefully along the rails to ensure free movement is possible. Reassemble the DVD drive and the XBox itself, then give it a try.

The power head of my 1165581590C Kenmore Power mate Whispertone 12 amp vacuum won't open. It is an older model and it desparately needs a clean!

I am not 100% sure of the model number but most of their powerheads come apart quite easily if you know how. There is a light lens cover on the top of your powerhead. On each side of this cover there is a little clip that holds it in place. You can usually see that spot by simply taking your thumb and pushing the light cover to one side or the other. Place a small flat head screwdriver in that slot and gently pry upward.

Once that cover is off, you will see two screws. Remove those two screws. Now simply grab each side of the cover towards the bottom and back of the nozzle and pull out. This should release it from the base. It will lift from forward from back to front..

Reassembly is pretty easy. Just reverse the instructions.

Let me know if this helps.

Have you tried to insert actual cartridges into the console? If they won't run, try cleaning the connectors on the console with a cleaning kit.

CONSOLE OVERHEATS WITHIN A FEW MINUTES OF BEING ON

Open unit up and clean dust and debris off heatsink fins. Outer case opens much like a clamshell once screw are removed from bottom. Plastic seam and end pieces pop out with flat screwdriver (carefully). Inner unit can be removed and opened easily after this. Once cleaned and reassembled, try to keep unit in clean, cool, smoke-free place with good air circulation for best life and performance.

Disc cannot be read

since by now the warranty is long gone try opening the console up by removing the rubber feet and screws underneath them. be careful not to damage the power buttons as they are on a flat cable attached to the shell. clean the inside of the console with qtips or a can of air DO NOT USE ANYTING moist or damp no solvents. clean the disk "eye" (small round glass eye) very carefully with a qtip ( you can use rubbing alcohol on this but verry little in a qtip only. if you do use a second dry qtip imideately after). reassemble and this should hopefully fix your problem.

All of the sudden my console will not load my rock band2 cd .it will play in other consoles and most of my other games load just fine the cd isnt scratched that i can see

When your PS2 starts getting finicky about what and when it plays, it's probably time to clean the laser lense. A relatively easy fix. MAKE SURE THAT THE POWER IS OFF AND THAT THE CORD IS UNPLUGGED! Take the screws off the bottom of the unit, open the casing carefully. Making sure not to pull on any of the ribbon conduits. Once opened, the DVD tray is now exposed. Take the 4 screws off of the top of it and clean the laser gently with a Q-tip and rubbing alcohol. Reassemble and try it out. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. Good luck!

Open tray error on benq drive for xbox 360

Your xbox will not read a game and says open tray with some grinding noise? I got your fix right here! I had this same problem and with a few hours of googling and watching a few videos on youtube i was able to fix my console. the open tray error started happening all the sudden and gradually got worse over the course of a week. I read a comment on one of the videos and decided to try it. it is a simple laser adjustment and anyone who can use a screwdriver can do it. it works for me and many others that tried this with success. do this only if your console is out of warranty!

all you need is a set of jewelers screwdrivers. Phillips screwdriver, knife for slicing through the warranty tape and a 10 torqs bit for removing screws once the xbox is open.

1. open the xbox (search youtube for videos showing how to open it up)

2. lift out the DVD drive and flip over

3. remove the 4 screws holding the top and bottom plate on

4. make sure the dvd drive is right side up and look directly behind the lens. you will see 2 gold/yellow screws. these screws dont look like screws so be aware of this. there is a slot cut in these screws for turning them using a flat head screwdriver. once you have located these move to step 5.

5. once you have located the 2 screws that are side by side, turn the LEFT screw from the 12 o'clock position to the 11 o'clock. you only need to adjust the left screw slightly counter clockwise to the 11 o'clock position. this aligns the laser. if you do it too much you might mess things up.

6. set the drive back in the console and replace only the top cover with the black circle on the dvd drive. you need to put this back on to test it and so the disc doesn't fly off. hook up the console to the tv and power it up. insert a game. viola! the game will now work and no more open tray errors. if there is still an error try adjusting that screw to the 10 o'clock position and try again.

7. use electronics canned air to clean out the console before reassembly.

8. reassemble the console and game your arse off!

enjoy!

Can't seem to play the games

Sounds bad
the contacts for the carts may be worn
get a credit card, cloth and head cleaning fluid.
put the cloth around the card and a few drops of liquid and push in to the slot and clean the contacts.
make sure none are bent out of place.
if cleaning won't help then you may need to open up and look at the contacts for dry joints; a blob of solder may help.
failing that you may need to look on ebay for a replacement console (you won't need the leads so it shouldn't cost more than a tenner including postage)
