If the main light is flashing 10 times when the door reverses it is a door sensor problem. Make sure they are pointed at one another and that the small light on each sensor is on and not flickering.

If the door reverses but the main light does not flash it could be a bad RPM sensor which is a small circuit board just in front of the motor.

If the door is hitting the floor and then reversing it is traveling too far. On the side of the motor unit you will find the 'down limit' control. Turn this a bit in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover.

Garrage door will not stay down. I adjusted both the up and down force. Both the orange and the green lites on the sensors stay lit all the time and they seem to be aligned correctly. If I cut down the down force the garage door will not go all the way down. If I cut down the up force then it will not go all the way up. No combination of up and down forces seem to work. The model no. is PD6128 and the serial number is 352412200690 and it is 1/2 h.p. It doesn't work correctly either with the remote or with the wall transmitter.

SOURCE: My garage door sometimes gets stuck and then goes

Don't tighten the chain. It sounds like you have either a broken door spring or the drive gear in the motor unit is going bad. Release the opener from the door and operate it by hand. It should be easy enough to raise that your wife can do it with no problems and it should stay put when released about waist to shoulder high.

The down adjustment broke off

Check the micro switch that will be activated when the door reaches the closed position. It might need to be readjusted as it is supposed to be activated just as the door reaches the fully closed position to stop the further movement of the door. If it does not get activated at that point the door will try to open further but sence an "obstruction" and start opening again as a buildt in safety measure for protection against possible injury or damage to property.

How do I put my chain back on a Stanley 8500 Garage door opener?

First you must make sure the sprocket on the garage door opener is spinning clockwise and reaches its limit and stops, you can easily put a pair of pliers between the #1 and #2 terminals on the garage door opener and start the sprocket spinning or just grab a remote and watch from the back of the unit (looking towards garage door ) and make sure it,s direction is clockwise, Once it stops you wanna loosen the chain enough so you can position the carriage which is connected to the chain and with your door closed send the carriage down far enough so that the carriage and the trolley both engage then all you have to do is put the chain over the sprocket and tighten up the tensioner that is located on the trolley...not to tight and not to loose is what you would want in an adjustment !....now since you already ran the sprocket in the down position your door is now ready to test ...when you press your remote or wall station the door will travel up, You have to do it this way , if you don,t ..you can damage the machine or your door ! Good luck and hope I was able to help you with your dilemma!

Ythe door goes up fine but u have to hold the button for it to go down

Normally this means that either your transmitter needs to be reprogrammed or you may have loose wiring. OR the alternative is that one of your sensors could be dirty or misalligned and you might not know it. Check the users manual and your door buttons to see if any wiring is faulty or loose. Most of the time it has to do with sensors. Holding button down is a manual bypass to force the door to go down. Something is telling it to stay up. Check your sensors. They can be easily moved, jarred, or knocked loose by accident.

My older Craftsman garage door opener comes down about 6" & then goes back up. I just replaced all the rollers o& the opener worked fine. Then I tightened the chain on the opener & it worked ok...

If the main light flashes 10 times when the door goes back up it is a door sensor problem. You chain should sag just a little. If you tighten it too much it will click as it goes over the sprocket. You can increase the down force which is an adjustment near where all those white wires go. A 1/4 turn should be enough. Release the door from the opener and operate it by hand. It should move freely and when you have the door approximately waist high it should stay put. Neither raising nor closing.

We cannot figure out how to get the chain to connect and stay connected without coming loose. What do we use to reconnect it.

If you pull straight down on the rope and release it the 2 halves of the trolley should lock together. There is a small spring on the part the ropes is connected to. If that is broken or missing you will have a problem. If these don't help you may have a bad trolley.

Door opener hits plastic light cover

If the chain is loose, The gear and sprocket is probably worn out. To solve the immediate problem. Tighten chain until it is not loose and you need to adjust the up limit. There will be 2 screws on the side with a picture of the door, one has an arrow up and one has an arrow down. The one with the up arrow needs to be turned down. Adjust until the door opens even with the top of the door opening. You will probably have to replace the gear and sprocket in the near future.

Opener will not reverse

FIRST YOU NEED TO RESET THE CHAIN .

Unplug power
Release the door from the opener close the door manually. take the chain loose and slide the traveler down to reengage with the trolley. Plug in power, run the unit with chain off untill it completes a clockwise cycle and stops. reconnect the chain and set tension.

Adjust the chain tension.

If it still moves 6-8 inches and flashes 5 times. the problem is in the rpm sensor.
