Toshiba Laptop Won't Boot

Hello, I am working on a customer's Lapetop and am getting a Blue Screen of Death, however, I can do not read the error, because it does not stay on screen after XP screen goes away. Is there a way to display it? Thanks, Michael.

Also, I failed to mention, the machine will not boot. I get the blue screen and it will not even boot in Safe Mode. Then I get the Blue screen and it tries to Re-Boot.

Keep pressing F8 as your computer boots until you get to the windows boot menu. There should be an option that says "Disable automatic restart on system failure" Then select "Windows XP" from the next menu to start booting windows. When it gets to the point with the blue screen of death it will not restart instantly but sit and wait. Then you can read everything.  Usually the second paragraph is the most useful and should give you a rough idea of what is going on. If you dont understand it just google it and you should find a solution.

The Blue screen occurs if some of your software or hardware try to damage you windows file, than to save those files windows shows you this Blue screen, you would have seen lot's of posts here where people are telling you to boot your system in safe, that would be the best way to diagnose, and if you system is booting to the desktop , doesn't matter is it safe mode or normal, Than you can check the system logs from Event viewer, to get to know about your Blue screen error code. and post that error code here, so that i could help you further.

Turn on your computer, press f8 many times as you can untill it comes with advance options. I would start with the "Last Know Good Configuration." If that fails, go to the advance options again and go to "Safe Mode." Check any hardware that causes the problem, if you can't find it then, you got to backup or system restore.

If you want to confirm if the memory is ok download memtest. It's free. http://www.memtest86.com/

I would also test the hard drive - probably more than 60% of the blue screens i see are a failing hard drive.

You can get hard drive testing software here:
http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm

Get the ISO download on that page.

Both these come as ISO files which are basically raw images of
CD's and need to be burned to cd in a specific way. Then you boot your machine with the CD in the drive and it will run the diagnostics.

If you need to know how to burn the ISO to CD properly look here:

I've had luck by pushing the "pause" key at exactly the right time.
If I were you, however, I'd be looking at recovery console or a repair install.
Good luck.
Another thought-how about using a digital camera to take a movie of the screen? Perhaps you could get a sufficiently decent picture to read the screen.

Hi,
I think the Fault is with the RAM of the laptop.
I maybe either dirty or faulty so my suggestion is

  1. Remove the RAM and clean the edge with a WHITE stencil paper Put it back inside and boot the machine..I the problem still exist then
  2. I guess you will have to get another good Memory RAM.

please get back to inform me about the results.

Good luck

Toshiba laptop blue screen of death and will not boot in ANY mode. kernel errors occasionally on bsod

I suggest that you insert the operating system reinstallation disc and do a start up repair. If it won't get in, then you might be that the hard drive is defective and you need to replace it.

When my wow pad boots up it goes thru the infotec screen to a lite blue screen it cannot find E:/ to restore or anything it just stays on the blue screen.

Hi, maybe you can take a try of this rescue program called BootSuite. I came across similar blue screen situaiton on my HP laptop (win 7) and it helped me get rid of it and rescued my data back. It is an awesome toolkit that includes a boot CD and several other data rescue tools that help get your PC going even if Windows won't start or computer won't boot up at all. Good luck.

I bought my wife this laptop (emachines G640)only a few weeks ago we've had a few issues at start up when it goes to the blue screen and the the screen where it says there was an issue and to start...

The stop error screen or bug check screen commonly called the blue screen of death (also known as a BSoD, bluescreen, or "blue screen of doom.

slasher_x_22.jpg
In reality, the most common cause of blue screen errors is a device driver problem. Outdated, incorrect or corrupt drivers can cause the system to encounter a STOP error, resulting in the BSOD.
Often, if you're lucky, the problem will resolve itself with a simple reboot and you may never have to worry about it again. More typically though, the BSOD is a harbinger of trouble and you may find yourself faced with another and another until you throw up your hands in frustration... but all is not lost.

So the easiest way to try and fix a blue screen error is to reinstall and update your system's device drivers. This is if you are able to boot into safe mode (Press and hold the F8 key during boot up). This will ensure that all driver bugs are fixed and that all hardware has the correct driver. If you know which device caused the error, you can update or reinstall that driver first. The file name in the blue screen of death can help identify the driver. Look for a file with the .SYS extension and search for that file name. There is a neat program on the net that can fix this problem, it's called DriverFinder, you can get it here.

If this doesn't work or you can't think or find the corrupt driver you could use System Restore (If it is enabled) to go back to a time where you didn't get the error. To use the system restore utility, go to 'start/all programs/accessories/system tools/system restore.

Sometimes though the blue Screen of death can be caused by faulty or loose rame cards. Check that your RAM modules are inserted correctly and arn't clogged with dust.

My pc wont boot up normally, it has a blue screen show up but then it goes away before i can read it

The blue screen of death BSOD is set to auto-restart after an error you can change the registry to prevent this not sure if you can do this in safe mode but its worth a try you will at least be able to see the error.

Its a good idea to use MemTest on a boot CD to check your RAM for errors first then restore from an old image.

Take the hard drive out and see if anything comes up on the screen. If so, replace the hard drive.

Does the screen get any brighter when you turn on the laptop? If not, the lcd cable, or power inverter may have gone bad.

Did you have any blue screen of death errors, or any other kind of errors before the screen problem? If so, you may have bad memory. Do you hear any beeps?
