Question about Compaq Presario 5000 PC Desktop
I Shut It Down As Usual and Now It Won't Statr?
It's possible that the power switch itself has failed. If you can remove the front cover and activate the switch with a pen or similar, you may get results. There could also be a short in the soft power circuitry. Often dust will accumulate inside the case or the power supply, and prevent the machine from responding to a power-on button press. If unplugging temporarily doesn't help, I suggest opening the case and using compressed air to clean as much dust as possible out. Be sure to discharge any static from yourself by touching a ground (like the metal of the case) before opening the machine.

Pull the mains plug from the back for about 10 seconds. Try again. Most modern powersupplies have a built-in cutoff when there are power spikes. If it was off and a spike occured, it may have locked it up.
