Dell Inspiron 500m power up problem

Here's what I know: the laptop, when it's on, works fine. If you restart the laptop from power on, that also works. When you shut down and leave the laptop for, I dunno, overnight, it won't power.

Take out the main battery and the accessory bay battery, hold down the power button for one minute (I just saw this somewhere), leave the unit for 20 minutes, and then it powers up. So this smells like a capacitance discharge issue, but WHERE??? There's a NiMH CMOS battery hidden behind a panel the main battery bay--could that be it?

Re: Dell Inspiron 500m power up problem

Not so much of a capacitance issue as Logic not switching, or stuck in NOT state.

Seem to be Schnitt/Hex inverter/Quad inverter issue. States are going back to original state. This was a major problem on 5150/1150/600m units that I got a hold of.

No power

Measuring the voltage outputs without applying a load doesn?t eliminate the adaptor as the problem. You also have to know how may amps it can supply as well. To answer you specific question common problems are defective battery, A/C power supply and my favorite?s defective power connector or circuitry inside. When you plug in the A/C power adaptor do any of the LEDs light, up? Does anything happen? Also try removing the battery, plugging in the A/C adaptor and try powering up. If this doesn?t work please supply answers to the above questions plus any other pertinent information you may have. As always please don?t forget to rate the posting but please wait till after we?ve finished.
