Disconnect all speaker wires at the receiver and turn the unit back on. If it stays on, your receiver is ok and you need to reconnect speakers one by one and test until you find the one causing the "protection" once you find this, disconnect the wire at the speaker and test again. make sure the + and - wires do not touch! If the receiver stays on, use a multimeter to test the speaker for a short with resistance check. If your not sure how to do this, any home audio shop will test it for free and while you wait. If speaker wires are disconnected and it still shuts down, it needs to be serviced. Hope this helps

Str-de545 sony not putting out sound to rear speakers

From page 46 (Troubleshooting)-

No sound or only a very low-level sound is heard from the rear speakers.

>>> Make sure the sound field function is on (press SOUND FIELD - MODE).

>>> Select a sound field containing the word "cinema" or "virtual" (see pages 28-30).

>>> Adjust the speaker volume (see page 19).

>>> Make sure the rear speaker size parameter is set to either SMALL or LARGE (see page 17).

How do i get out of protect mode?

in general protect mode means you have a problem most amps that have this will just need turning off and then on again when the fault has gone. if its not then you may still have a fault maybe bad speaker or a short something like that. if not then the amp itself may be faulty.

Sony str-de-545 5.1 channel

Hi there, Is the socket actually broken, or is it just playing up. It may just need some dry solder joints reflowed to fix it. If you are lucky, this may be done without a full strip down.

If you need to replace it, you will have to pull the board out of the unit, or at least the back panel completely off to get access to the soldering of the socket to replace it. This is not a difficult job, but often requires almost complete disassembly of the amp to do so. Time consuming...yes. It is something that unless you have some confidence at dismantling and reassembly gear, I would suggest that you refer it to a repair man. Good luck, I am happy to answer any more questions you may have.
