Question about Intermatic Inc. EJ500C Digital Wall Switch Timer - Self-Adjusting Feature
I just installed this thing yesterday and it was a PITA. ecupirate988's post was useful but I needed more.
NO is "Normally Open", meaning that whatever is plugged into COM (not necessarily what's plugged into TIMER, but could be) will get power. NC is "Normally Closed", meaning that when the switch is off, this will get power. The NO2, NC2 and COM2 lets you have 2 different voltages going through the same switch.
To wire this thing like simple wall switch, put the incoming hot (black) into the left side of "TIMER" and put the neutral (white) into the right side of "TIMER". Then with a second 6-8" wire, take of the sheathing so you have an 8" black, white and bare/green wire. Throw away the bare/green wire & the sheathing. Plug the black into the other side of the screw your first black went into (TIMER [LEFT]) and the other side into COM. Then plug the white into the other side of the screw your first wire went into and use a nut to connect it to the white (neutral) of your light. Connect the black of your light into NO1 and.
That worked great for me. Took a lot of work with a voltmeter & some learning on Wikipedia to figure out exactly what I was doing. It's a nice switch once you get it wired.
