Check out the following information on how to replace keyboards on Toshiba laptops.

Your model may be similar, but it's basically the same. Just be very careful not to break the plastic wedges or the data ribbon.

How do you turn on and off the keyboard backlight on a Toshiba S55-A5176 laptop?

Press Fn-Z

... if it's fitted. But there is some controversy about it. It seems that it was sold with a sticker that said it had a backlit keyboard but actually doesn't.

How do I replace the keyboard?

next to the F1 key and the windows key (2nd upper key and second to last key) are two screws, usually under some covering. unscrew and lift top edge of the keyboard towards the trackpad to lay face down. Undo the wire ribbon by lifting the grey or brown tabs and remove ribbon and keyboard. Then install the new keyboard by inserting the ribbon on the place. Lock down with the tabs and put the plastic prongs (close to the space bar) into the laptop body first, and then close keyboard onto the final position. screw back in and thats all. nboulikas@gmail.com for any additional questions.

Can't open casing to fit new hard drive can anyone help

You're lucky, my harddisk crashed. Found this on Internet: - First, carefully take off the plastic part (the one with satellite written on it), starting by one of the sides. - Then unscrew the keyboard (only 4 screws); - Then unscrew 2 screws in the hd case; - And voilá, here is the hd. The four keyboard screws mentioned above aren't the whole story. There are another three outside at the bottom of the laptop, marked "K". And maybe you´ll appreciate this link: http://www.toshibaweb.co.uk/toshiba/satellite/1620.htm

Toshiba Satellite A135 Keyboard replacement.

Keyboards remove in two different ways on just about all laptops. 1- There are screws on the bottom that hold it. 2- The screws are located under the power button strip at the top of the keyboard. Here's a couple of links that you may find a breakdown diagram for your machine.
