Question about Televison & Video

Last week I wrote about a 40 inch Bravia that lost picture and sound. Sears now wants to order a new part, but tells me it's on back order and will not provide us with a delivery or ship date. I believe it's payback because I complained to their customer service department. I have contacted the Illinois Attorny General and will also contact Chicago Dept. of Consumer Services and the BBB. I believe Sony is well aware of the problem and wont issue a recall and retailers continue to sell an inferior product and extended warranties to unsuspecting consumers with no intention of fixing the problem. Can I try to find someone else to fix it without voiding my extended warranty? What would happen if I purchased another TV and put the broken one in the box and returned it? I know it's so dishonest, but I am at my wits end? However, I would never do it if they were going to resell it to some other sap out there buying a Sony. If anyone out there in Chicago/Illinois is having a problem similar to mine, it is imperative that you contact the IAG office or write to NBC or Chicago Tribune Consumer Watch. Pressure must be put on Sony to recall this product. The more people who complain, the more likely we all are to get help.

The tcon board or the LCD panel is faulty. You have to replace the TCON board to confim the fault.

this is true, check the main board to the power supply board voltage should be 12volts and 5 volts and 24 they should be marked by the plug ,if voltages are there then the main board is your problem,./

Sony 40 inch Bravia screen has sound, but picture have weird lines that go across screen


It could be caused by a bad T-Con board or defective LCD panel. The panel is more expensive than the TV, so hope that it is the T-Con board. Below is a parts list for your TV model.

Sony Bravia KDL-40w4100 vertical line issue


Ok after over a year i figured out it was the tcon board. Good luck getting finding one. The first one i ordered from shopjimmy was faulty, didn't realize until after the warranty so i ate the cost of it (honestly i thought that it was good and there was another thing wrong with the tv) so i said wtf and bought one last week from ebay. Bam! it works great!!!

TV suddenly lost the ability to project red


Reset the colors setting back to factory original setting.Should have all colors back to original.Not than ur main tuner signal board is dead,must replaced.

Green screen with sound from cable, but picture is fine with Wii


That would be my solution. The trouble is either in the box or your connecting cables. Verify this by connecting the cable directly to the set. Then try a new set of connecting cables, or call the cable provider to replace the box.

The tuner is bad. Could also be the video process, since the hi-def is decoded there

Sony Bravia LCD 40" XBR2- Sound, but no picture; solid bright green screen


It is possible that the lamp is bad, but do not do anything other than post the exact model number here. With that, I can get you directions on what and how to repair the set hopefully. The model number should start with K.

We followed the 'simple' troubleshooting tips then called the service center. As mentioned above 4 blinks indicates a bad panel. The repairman that visited said that he is ordering a new power supply (much cheaper than the back panel) for their first try. I will post again when my set is back on.
