Question about Dirt Devil Vacuums

Open Question

Hi, my name is Nicole. I have a dirt devil d1. I have been having problems with the empty space that surrounds the air director. It is filling up and I'm having to unscrew it to empty it out. I have already checked the air director, and it is not clogged or anything. When I vacuum, the bottom part of the canister fills up, but so does this space at the top. Can you help?

Any warranty dealer for Dirt Devil should be able to supply a schematic for that machine. They have access to the dealer web site and can download the information.

SOURCE: I have a Dirt Devil

Some of the Dirt Devils have a reset button on the back, near the bottom. But if the it is getting hot on the bottom, that may mean the motor is trying to run but can't. Maybe something has jammed it. You would have to disasemble it to find out.

Do my Dirt Devil have a restart button it just stop running

Hi! No the vacuum doesn't have a restart button, but it does have a thermal protector that will shut the vacuum down when it is overheated. If your dirt cup was too full this will activate the thermal protector sensor. Clogs and dirty filters can cause this as well. We recommend emptying the dirt cup, tapping out the filter and checking the hose for clogs. The vacuum will come back on usually within 45 minutes to an hour. Hope this helps. I have plugged in my dirt devil and it wont turn on. other things are plugged into the same plug in and they are working. is there a reset button on the vacuum?

Hello! The Easy Lite does not have a reset button. It does have a thermal protector that will automatically shut the vacuum down if it is overheated. This is usually caused by either a clog or a dirty filter or a combination of the two. Try these trouble shooting steps below.

1. Remove the hose completely from the vacuum from both ends.

2. Use a broom stick or something similar to gently loosen and remove any clogs from the hose.

3. Remove the dirt cup. Remove the red air director by turning 1/4 turn counter clockwise. Remove any hair or debris from the air director.

4. Remove the filter from vacuum base. Hold filter under running water to rinse. Allow 24 hours to air dry.

When the thermal protector is activated the vacuum must cool down before it will power back on. This can take up to an hour. Hope this helps! If you still have questions feel free to reach out to us here on Fixya, Facebook.com/dirtdevil or Twitter @DirtDevil.

I cleaned my filter and forgot how to put it back on, how?

Hi there! To return the air director back into the dirt cup, rotate 1/4 turn clockwise to lock into place. To replace the pleated filter. Return filter cartridge to base of cleaner. Click button on filter cover back into place to lock filter cartridge in base of cleaner. Hope this helps! I have also included a link to the instruction manual for reference if needed. Ensure the Dirt Devil is connected to a working power supply if it does not turn on or operate. Check the fuse or breaker and replace or reset as necessary.

  • 2 Empty the dirty water tank if there is little or no suction. Turn off the Dirt Devil and grab the top of the dirty water tank. Push on the latch to release the tank and pull the tank off the base. Remove the lid and empty the dirty water into a sink. Replace the cap and hook the front of the tank onto the machine base. Hook the nozzle on the base so that the nozzle is level with the cleaner base. Push the back of the dirty water tank down and into position.

  • 3 Check the dirty water tank and empty as necessary if there is water leaking from the cleaner. Open the latch on the top of the solution reservoir and pull the reservoir forward. Fill with Dirt Devil brand cleaner to the fill mark. Fill the rest of the reservoir with hot water and close the cap. Replace on the base unit.
  • 4 Make sure the solution reservoir is seated firmly in the base unit if there is no cleaning solution dispensing from the unit. Fill the solution tank with cleaner and water if the level is low.
  • 5 Examine the hose and nozzles for possible obstructions if the carpet cleaner does not seem to be operating correctly. Remove any blockages.
