Question about NetGear DG824M Wireless ADSL Modem Gateway Router

Netgear DG824m Disconnecting every few mintes

Hi, recently my connection to the net has started to disconnect after a few minutes and then reconnect itself again, this happens all the the time. Firsti was thinking my ISP maybe but did a bit of searching on the net and found others had the same problem. I have got the latest software upgrade as far as i know Ver 1.4 Release 05. Any help would be great, Thanks Tony Pickard

    Thx Geekman but maybe i should have said that it's not the wireless side of connection i am loosing, its the hardline into the back of the PC. I have secured the wireless from others, altered password, 128 encrypt etc. Maybe the router is just getting old, maybe upgrade to the newer 834 model or another make al togeather...

    Hi Geekman, maybe i should have made it a bit more clearer, it's not the wireless side i am worried about, its the hardwire into my main PC that keeps dropping the connection. I have done most of the stuff you said for the wireless anyways but am struggling to fix main PC issue. Maybe purchase the DG834 newer model as mine is about 5 years ols now i recon, unless i get this sorted...thanks.

There are a few things that can cause you to lose wireless connection with your wireless router.
1. Weak signal strength, check the signal strength on your wireless card. If it is weak move the wireless router away from walls and if possible locate the wireless router higher up.
2. Have you secured your wireless router from people near your from unauthorized access? ie. change the default password, setup encryption use WPA2 or WPA, change the default SSID, and turn off SSID broadcast, and for added protection, enable MAC address filtering which allows only the MAC address/es of your wireless card/s to connect to your wireless router.
3. You could be getting interference from electrical sources such as air conditioners, arid welders, washing machines etc. If so the power supply to the wireless routers and computers etc should be connected to a surge protection power board, better still connect your computer equipment to an UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply)
4. Check the channels of the wireless routers and access points in your area and change the broadcast channel on your wireless router to an unused channel or one that is currently used but has the weakest signal strength. This will minimize interference with your wireless router from other wireless routers and access points in your area.

That is a typical problem/issue. What happens is the ip block gets blacklisted and no longer works. All you need to do is wait a few days and it should work again. I think the longest I've seen it down lately is about 4 days or so. Hotspot is pretty proactive on fixing the connections so it usually is much faster. There are a few things you can try such as disconnecting, wait a minute and then reconnect to get a different ip. If the ip is out of the blacklisted range you should be able to watch the BBC/IT4 etc again right away. If not then about all you can do is wait and keep trying to connect. The disconnects I've seen recently are very short compared to when they first started. Those lasted weeks sometimes.

My wg111t connects for a few seconds then disconnects. I can get online but it is constantly connecting then disconnecting the connecting and so on its pissing me off help!!!!!!!!!


please increase channel number on router,it will fix your
recomended channel number is 11 or 09 for netgear adapter
and also you can upgrade driver for adapter

The unit turns on then shuts off after a few seconds.


This could be a bad speaker or speaker wire. I had this same problem recently. In my case it was the powered sub-woofer. I disconnected the speaker wire from the back of the receiver(with the power off, of course). When I powered up the receiver, problem solved, it worked fine. I then made sure the wire was not shorting out, carefully reconnected everything and the sub works too. I never found the cause, but it has worked fine for several months now.
You can start by disconnecting all the speakers. If the receiver powers-up reconnect them one at a time to find the bad wire/speaker. If it is not the speakers, disconnect all attached devices. If the receiver still won't power-up go shopping for a new one. It is not worth repairing. It is less expensive to replace it.
Remember, always turn the power off and set volume to zero before disconnecting or connecting anything! You don't want to cause any damage.

just double check in the router settings and see the connection speed (not internet ISP speed), it may be set at 108MBPS and your reciever may only be able to connect at 54MBPS.

Webcam


hi,
there are a number of reason for what your webcam might get disconnected .
1. If your net connecting is very slow. the chat (mostly seen in yahoo ) gets disconnected and as a result the webcam too stops broadcasting.
2. If your net disconnects and reconnects.
3. if you have a lose connection of the web cam with the computer.
next time it happens check out if the net connetcion is ok.
