Question about Epson Stylus CX6400 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Error CX6400 Parts inside your printer are at the end of their service life. See your printer documentation. What does this mean and how do I fix it? If I have to buy another printer because of this you can be sure it will not be an Epson.

couldn't find a way to tell you thank you for your help so I'll do it this way. Very much appreciated. If I could find a service manual to tell me how to get to the pad I'd sure give it a go. The printer is over 5 years old so of course there is no warranty to worry about. I would like to fix this as in this economic climate money for a new printer is just not there. I'm pretty handy with a screwdriver so if anyone has any idea how to get to this ink pad I'd appreciate the help.

    Thanks again.

EPSON rulez, don't make any judgements before you read this :)

The printer has a waste ink pad, which basically isaplastic container with felt in it. When the printer cleans theheads, either as commanded by you, or initially before printing, itspits outsome ink into this pad. The printer remembers an approximatecount ofink that has gone into the pad in a "protection counter", andsignalswhen the counter reaches a predefined limit.

Of course, this padhas a limited capacity. Theoretically, you should take yourprinter toa service workshop for waste pad replacement and resetting ofthecounter - the printer is designed not to let the waste ink overflowandleak under the printer.
Of course the limit is set with asafetymargin, for a worst-case scenario, when you "pour" ink constantlyandit has no time to dry.

If you want tobecompletely inline with manufacturer's specifications, and especiallyifthe printer is still under warranty, you should contact EPSONserviceto do the right thing.

If however you want to live on theedge, you can download a special utility to reset the protectioncounter, replacing the felt or cleaning it yourself, or - if you areeven moreadventurous - without replacing the pad altogether, countingon thefact, that the waste ink dries out all the time and in practicethe padshould accept twice as much as the producer assumed - but don'tplaceyour printer on that antique table or sofa afterwards...
If you want to give it a try, go to this webpage to download the software (TIP: DON'T be tempted to change any other settings, as you may render your printer useless):

Do you have any other indicators such as flashing lights or similar?

My guess is that it MIGHT be a "service required" error meaning the waste pads are full in which case this guide may help..

There's a reset sequence you can follow near the end of the article which I'd try... If that solves it then you'll need to deal with the waste pads.. If not, you'll know it's something else and can report back..

Epson cx6400 problem - ''parts are at end of useful life, see documentation'' How do I fix this?

Open the printer and replace the ink pad. Then download the epson service tool and clear the counter.
Don't clear the counter if you didn't replace the ink pad or the ink will overflow all over the printer mechanism and on your desktop.

I have an Epson CX6400 which gives the message "Parts inside your printer are at the end of their service life. See your printer documentation." Is there going to be a cheap way to see what is wrong and if...

The message refers to the ink pads, which are actually a number of porous pads in the printer that collect, distribute, and very importantly contain the ink that is not used on printed pages. Ink is collected by these pads during the initial setup of the product, during cleaning cycles and when printing borderless photographs. Most users will not receive this message before the printer is replaced for other reasons. Some high volume users or those who use the printer for many years may receive this message about ink pads before other components reach the end of their usable life.

You can also reset the counters on the Epson to allow you to continue printing by downloading a service utility at the following link

Reset the waste ink counter!
Assuming you have completed your modification you can reset your printers waste counter using this method (I did this and it worked on the CX6400) can't guarantee it works on all)
1. You will see big button on your printer like power on (this is on the left
2. side), black & white photocopy, color photocopy, and then the stop button (these are on the right side).
3. first turn off your printer
4. push the b/w + color + stop buttons together and hold
5. push the power on button and hold (so you'll now be holding down 4 buttons together)
6. Don't release all the buttons until you see the light indicator is blinking and then a message display on the lcd
7. release all the buttons
8. push the color button (once)
9. turn off the printer
10. turn it on again
After this one may need to reload the printer driver and locate the printer!

This is normally a Maintenance Request Error. The maintenance request error is actually a Waste Ink Ink Pad Error

usually your remedy is:

1. Replace the Waste Ink Pad/Pads with a new one/ones (many people ignore this one, and they just follow #2)
2) Reset the Internal Waste Ink Pad Counter by using this utility

Hi, it means you must contact epson to have it repaired, which usually costs £75 + vat ie cheaper to buy a new one.
parts are too expensive to even attempt to fix the problem yourself..
