Question about Belkin (F5D7230-4) Router (587009)

1 Answer

Because our wireless Internet kept dropping off our laptap, I finally just disconnected the router after talking with the phone company and getting nowhere. I need to know how to reconnect it, and reconfigure it so I can hopefully get wireless back. Also, could I connect the router differently somehow? Maybe the router is not in the best place to carry signal to upstairs laptap, but the connecting wire we have isn't very long, so I can't move it to a possibly more favorable position away from our downstairs CPU.

Choose a convenient location to begin installing your router, such as an open floor space or table. This does not need to be the permanent location of the router. For wireless routers, it may be necessary to re-position the unit after installing it as the signals may not reach all areas needed.

  1. Unplug the power to your Internet modem.
  2. Power down your computer(s).
  3. Plug the power in to your router.
  4. Connect your Internet modem to the router. The cable plugs into the router jack named "WAN" or "Internet".
  5. Connect one computer to the router. Even if the router is a wireless model, connect this first computer to the router via a network cable.
  6. Turn on the computer.
  7. From the computer connected to the router, open your web browser. Enter the router's address, http://192.168.2.1, and press Enter on your keyboard.
  8. Click Login in the upper right-hand corner of the page. The router does not ship with a password, so just click Submit.
  9. To configure the router to connect to the Internet, you must enter information provided by your Internet Service Provider (ISP) into the "Connection Type" section in the left-hand column under the "Internet WAN" heading of the router's configuration page. If using DSL Internet, you may need to enter the PPPoE username and password. Likewise, if you have been issued a static IP address by your provider, the static IP fields (including network mask and gateway) must also must be set in the router.

  10. If this is a wireless router, change the network name (referred to as SSID). While the router comes to you with a network name set at the factory, you may want to use something more familiar for your network.
  11. Plug the power back into your Internet modem.
  12. Verify that this computer can connect to the Internet properly. Open a new web browser and visit a few Internet sites such as Google.com or Yahoo.com.
  13. Finally, configure additional network security features as desired to guard your systems against Internet attackers.

You will need to check the wireless settings of the router
is there any computer connected to the router ?
If yes then you can open the router set up page on that computer.
Router set up page is the page where you can check all the wireless settings of the router.

If that doesn't work then upgrade the firmware of the router.
Firmware is the software of the router. After upgrading the firmware, it is recommended that you should reset the router and reconfigure the router.

Does your modem also drop, or just when you use your router? If it drops when not using a router, your cable company can check your modem for you. They will not help with your router unless you got it from them. See if it stays up when you are plugged in directly to the modem.

Internet connection dies when phone rings

There are a number of tests you can perform to find the problem unhook all the phones in your house and then call to see if it still does it. If it doesnt it may be one of your phones. If it does check the wiring in the jacks and make sure the wires are not backwards in any of them. If they all appear to be fine there maybe a problem at the pole or box whichever the company has installed in your neighborhood. Once you have determined that none of the above is present its not your fault and the providing internet company should not charge you to come out and check the outside lines. It can be as simple as a little short in the wire especially if its underground.

You may also wanna locate the phone box on the outside of your home and see if it disconnects when connected to there.

The box Outside Should Look Like This
92add24.jpg

And You'll Need To Disconnect All Of The Lines From These Plugs And Then Plug Your Internet Directly Into One Of Them. This Will Disconnect All The Phone Lines In The House. Now Place A Call To Your Home Via Cell Phone Or Have A Friend Call And If It Doesn't Disconnect Your Internet The Problem Is In The House.
If It Still Does Its The Phone Company's Problem And You'll Need To Call Them To Fix The Problem.

If This Does Not %100 Solve Your Problem Let me Know And I Will Continue Further Trouble Shooting With You.
Sincerely,
Michael Scott

Wireless router dropping then disappeared

There are two possible generic reasons I have found in reviewing internet posts.

One claims there may be a windows issue with hiding the SSID (or router name) and enabling WEP or WPA secure/encrypted wireless connections and random disconnections of service to the wireless adapter. The recommended solution is not to hide the SSID (or router name) and maintain the WEP or WPA secure/encrypted service.

Another claims that there may be an "overload" of requirements on a specific wireless channel in your area (sometimes by non routers such as wireless phones). Many routers default to channel 6. I you have a wireless monitor on a PC that shows routers and their channel assignments nearby -- if everyone is on channel 6 you may want to move to channel 1 or 11 and see if your device works better. There are some wireless routers with capability for 108mbs transmission rates that actually transmit on two channels at once that could be affecting your response so if channel 1 does not work try channel 11 or vice versa.
