Here are some things to check:

Limited range of your remote controlscould be related to radio frequency interference that comes fromsomething in your home or in the surrounding environment. Certainelectrical devices can radiate interference; this could be almostanything that is plugged into an electrical outlet.

Please keep in mind that the device canbe brand new, or can be an item that has been in use for quite awhile. Also, the item may continue to function properly as far asyou are able to tell. The only problem with the item may be that ithas started to broadcast the interference, with no other symptomsnoted.

Some devices are more likely togenerate interference than others. This includes TV cable, cableamplifiers, surge protectors, fluorescent lights, battery chargingdevices (power tools, golf carts, etc.), anything that utilizes atimer (sprinkler systems, lights, alarm systems, etc.), and a myriadof others. If the problem seems sporadic, we can safely assume thatthe device responsible for the interference is only being operatedduring these times. Again, please keep in mind that the age of thedevice does not determine if it is capable of broadcasting unwantedinterference. Any electrical device can be the source of the problem.

The first step is replacing the batteryin your remote. If the range on your remote does not improve, removethe wall control wires from the overhead unit. If the range does notimprove you will likely need to replace the remote control. Afterreplacing the remote, or if you have other remotes programmed in tothe opener, and the range problem still exists, please proceed to thePower Down test.

Multiple garage doors:
If you have two garage door units andone is working just fine, you will need to start by unplugging thegood unit. This will help determine if the unit with no range startsto function properly. If the range comes back to the bad unit thenyou will need to replace the logic board on the unit that wasunplugged as it is emitting an RF signal that is over powering theother garage door opener. If the range doesn not improve after the“good” unit has been unplugged, replace the batteries and tryprogramming some additional remotes to determine if the existingremotes are the issue. If the extra remotes do not have any rangethen you would need to replace the receiver logic board in the “bad”unit.

Power Down test:
To isolate potential sources ofinterference, turn the circuit breaker off to the garage and plug thegarage door opener into an extension cord from another room. If therange improves, then the interference is coming from a device in thegarage. If no improvement is seen follow the same procedure, thistime turning off the circuit breakers to your home, with theexception of the garage and test the remote controls. If improvementis noted, turn the circuit breakers back on, one by one, until therange problem resurfaces. This will allow you to narrow down whatroom the problem device is in. You will have to go from there toisolate it further, by unplugging and re-plugging the items in thatroom.

If you are unable to determine anysource of interference, then the receiver logic board in the overheadunit will need to be replaced.

Testimonial: "Excellent feedback. I found the problem with a failing outside lighting sensor. Eliminated the light sensor and the garage door to normal. TY"

Our remotes (2 for the car and a keyless entry) stopped working. We erased everything (and checked to make sure our remotes weren't working) and reprogrammed all remotes. They work, but our neighbor's...

Make sure your neighbor doesn't have a remote with a sticking switch. Often times a person will stick an extra remote in a drawer and then place something on it that holds the button down. Try programming your remotes this way just in case you didn't.

Press and hold the button down on the remote while you press and immediately release the smart/learn button. Sometimes it can help if you are in the garage when you program your remotes this way and it will drown out any distant signal.

Hi my remote works the wall button works but the keyless keypad will close the door when code is entered but it won't open it

It sounds like the keypad has lost signal strength. Make sure the battery is good. If it acts the same way with a good battery you will have to replace the keypad.

Craftsman 1/2 hp opener won't open using the outdoor keypad. It will close when using the outdoor keypad but not open. Wall unit closes and opens it. changed battery in keypad, no difference

If your hand remotes work okay then the keypad has lost signal strength and needs to be replaced. If your hand remotes act the same way then your logic board is bad.

Trouble with programing garage remotes and keyless entry pad

Either the keypad is the wrong model for your opener or it has reverted to an earlier technology and needs to be replaced. It is important that you get the model number off your motor unit so you can be sure you get the right keypad for your opener.
