Question about Nintendo Wii Console

Region code solution

I've bought a Nintendo wii console from Australia and I bought wii games from Canada. It doesn't work on the wii console. I think, it is not working because of region code. Is there any way to make them work? Or If I install any chip or any other parts, will it work? I can install it myself as I am a electronic technician.

Hi.
To make a Nintendo WII region free you need to have the Mod chip replaced.
This is done by shops and local repairmen, but will invalidate the warranty.

There is also a software region hack, but I have seen no testimonial saying that the software is working. Here a website on the topic.

I still think that the only way to make a Wii completely region free is by replacing the chip with a mod one.

My Wii is not reading the disc

Unfortunately, no, you cannot format the Wii to accept different region codes.
But, you say the UAE is where you bought the Wii, which I assume is the United Arab Emirates? Which would be Region Code 2, which includes Europe, the Middle East, South Africa and Greenland.
Region code 1 includes only the United States of America and Canada.
However, if the Winter Sport 2012 is a dual-layer dvd disc, the Wii can have issues reading it. This is a common problem with the game Super Smash Bros. Melee. The Wii's laser reader was not initially designed to read such formats and may need cleaning in order to read the disc.
The Wii has a laser disc cleaner system that you can buy from most game stores that can clean the laser so that it emits a strong enough light to read a dual-layer disc. This has worked for me every time in the past.

Well i bought a game called 2k8 basketball here in philippines, but i bought my xbox on australia, then i tryed my game and it said, ( The disc's region code is incorrect for this consol ) so how can i...

Sorry you can't fix it. Most games are Region specific meaning that they are playable only on Xbox 360 systems from the specific region that you have. If you bought your Xbox 360 in Australia then it is likely PAL system and can only play Pal games.

"Determine whether the game disc is from the same region as the region where you purchased the Xbox console. To determine the region, view the back of the game package. Look for one of the following codes:

* NTSC: North America and South America (United States, Canada, Mexico, Chile, and Brazil)
* NTSC-J: Asia (Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Singapore, and Taiwan)
* PAL: Europe, South Africa, India, Australia, and New Zealand"

If the game you have doesn't match with your Xbox 360 Region then you won't be able to play it. (but a few games are playable on multiple regions, check list below)

Check out this site prior to buying games to help identify which games that aren't PAL might be still playable on your system.: http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-00-3-xbox360_compatibility_guide-49-en-84-t.html

Notice that NBA 2K8 US version is not compatible with PAL system. If you had bought the US version of NBA 2K9 then it would have worked.

I have an Australian region Wii and live in Australia but holidaying in USA. If I get a modchip installed to make my Australian Wii region free will this affect the Wii games that I already have purchased...

It should not. In fact, your wii should be able to play any game from any region with the mod chip. However, you should ask the company that is doing the mod chip install to be sure.

Going to the states will there games play on my wii here also my son working over there thought he could send the games home for presents if they work

Yes their games will play fine on your Wii, and yes you can send games home. Wii systems sold here only work in Canada, US and South America.
Now if you were trying to do that with a Japan game, they have a different region code then us (Canada, US) So if you wanted to play Japan games on a Canadian/United States Wii you would have to install a mod chip for that to work.

Nintendo Wii

Google "Wii Homebrew" and read up on this amazing work people have put so much time and effort on to make it possible to make your Wii region-free and play software Nintendo didnt design. You will have to check what version of firmware the Wii has installed. This is easy though as all you do is open up the menu and look in the upper right hand corner. It should say 3.2E for a PAL [European Wii], 3.2U for NTSC [USA, Canada, and Mexico], 3.2 J for NTSC [Japan]. If it says 4.0 then you will have to wait for someone to find an exploit because Nintnendo has fixed the access point [the way you can install homebrew and start it] in this version of firmware. Just google it and read up on it. Best of luck and hope you dont have 4.0.
