Freezer ok fridge warm (15 degrees)

For two days fridge been showing fifteen degrees and freezer compartment has been fine. Last night I defrosted it all incase a pipe was blocked with ice.

Turned it back on this morning after 5 hours the fridge is now saying 18 degrees and the freezer is only at -12 degrees instead of usual -22.

Any ideas what to do next

Hi hotpoint ff92s Fridge reads +21 Looked in the compartment behind the freezer AND also checked the air vents, these are clear of any blockages but however the fan at the back in the freezer section seams to work ok when the fridge is at normal temps. the fan stops working when the temps read +21 I turn the frodger / freezer off for a long time and then restart it and the fan kicks in. Please help.

    Thanks in advance

NB if new parts are needed where can i get hold of them. Any places where i can collect straight away. i am in leeds. west yorkshire.

The top shelf of hotpoint rlfm151 fridge at up to 22 degrees, bottom shelf at fridge temperature, why?

  • Anonymous Mar 27, 2014

Both compartments have long been set at "3", "7" being coldest. Now the main compartment is at 60 degrees F, with the freezer still functioning (though a little high). Motor is running longer than usual but does turn off periodically.

You have a hotpoint mistral f/f i take it in silver..

Check to see if the fan is running at the bottom on the back of the fridge its next to the compressor behind the panel ...
if the compressor is running and the fan is not then your fault is the fan..

IF the fan is running then its the sensors...

These are located in the freezer section, pull out the draws and remove the panel behind it.... six screws.......... you will c threes plugs at the top ledt hand side.. the yellow one is for the fridge the green one for the freezer.... replace both if your freezer is not working...

Also just below the freezer door there is a panel remove the panel and use a vaccumm to clean the fluff that has built up on the coils..

hope this helps if you need anymore help dont hesitate to ask...

by the way the sensors are called evap thermistors...

Hi there Shaf, saw your comment from a few years back and thought I would ask, if you could help me with my hotpoint mistral f/f92s. Just replaced yellow thermistor and fridge still at +24 and freezer ok at -22. Fan comes on for about 10 seconds when I first switch on fridge then stops. If I replace the green thermistor as well do you think this will solve problem. Also I believe there is another thermistor on top behind digital panel. Could the problem be this or should I just skip the fridge? Cheers Kevin

Oklahoma Freezer cold fridge warm fan gets Ice build up !

You should not have to manually defrost. Your auto defrost system is not working. Check the timer usuall in the frig compartment near the thermostat ( a small hole, use a screwdrive flat tip 1/4" to rotate the timer till it clicks starting the defrost cycle) check freezer in 10-15 min should be defrosted if not you will need to check the heater and thermostat located behind the rear or bottom panel of the freezer.

The defrost timer could be under the box in the front behind kick panel or in the rear by the compressor.

There is a vent that is connected from the freezer down to the fridge right where the fan is,make sure nothing is blocking it.

Top half fridge not cold freezer department fine

I had the same problem; the top fridge compartment was warming up to 14C while the freezer compartment was starting to defrost (frozen stuff was starting to become soft. I took the rear wall off the freezer compartment and found it all iced up. I defrosted it with a blower heater then powered it back up. It all worked fine for a month when the same thing happened. I figured that the defrost cycle wasn't working. I located the defrost timer on the rear right-side of the fridge. I rotated it several times and found that the fridge was turning on and off. I rotated it until the fridge turned off. I waited 5 minutes then stuck my head into the freezer compartment and felt the rear wall at the bottom where he drain is; it felt warm so I guessed the defrost heater element was ok. I ordered a defrost timer and installed it. I haven't had a problem since.

Fridge is warm, freezer works.

Sounds like a defrost problem. Check to see if there is any frost buildup in the back wall of the freezer. If so, it is not defrosting as it should.
  • possible causes:
  1. bad defrost timer
  2. bad defrost heater (in freezer)
  3. bad thermo switch in freezer
If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above items.

Fridge doesn't get cold enough

you have either a Defrost heater / a defrost timer/ or a defrost bi-metal that is bad. if you post your model # i can look it up and show you how to set it into defrost to see if the heaters are ok
Since you replaced the timer already that leaves two things you need to check set it into defrost if you know how and remove the panel in the back wall of the freezer you should see the heater(s) are on if not check pwr 120vac at the heaters if 0 volts the bi-metal is bad
