Fires, but pilot won't stay lit - Vanguard International Blue Flame - Medium Open Flame Patio Heater

Thank you! One is working, but other is now only 'sparking'. The pilot came on initially, but wouldn't remain lit, per my original complaint. I'll blow it out and try again unless you have another suggestion. BTW, this one has always been contrary. lol

Unfortunately or fortunately, I'm familiar with a thermocouple, thanks to water heater and range.

Ther is a thermocouple in the flame that tells the regulator that there is a flame if the thermocouple is bad the gas automaticaly shuts off be cause of the safety feature or if it is not in the flame it cannot sense the heat

There's a little screw that adjusts the pilot light. It is usually on the block with all the other valves. Follow the pilot lite supply line to where the screw probably is located.

Pilot lite won't stay lit

Thermostat flame sensor. Do you see a little rod next to the pilot? That is what tells the main gas valve that the pilot is lit and it is safe to give gas. Easy swap, and you can usually just pick up a generic one.

I changed the thermo coupler and the pilot light does stay lit but the burners won't light

If you are referring to a gas fireplace:

  • Make sure the pilot knob is turned from "pilot" to "ON" or it will never run.
  • If the pilot knob is "ON", and the pilot is lit, but the burner won't light, it could be a bad Thermopile. The thermopile is the other safety mechanism in the pilot assembly that controls the burner.

Pilot light on the gas boiler won't stay lit it's

The pilot flame must touch (burn) the tip oqef the t-couple to hold the magnet in the gas value open.make sure the pilot orifice (hole) is clear.the pilot pressure (in the tube) is factory set full open & can only be adjusted down (less). Also check the gas **** didn't get closed or turned half way.? Assuming its not the t-couple. If all is good & it still won't stay on. Replace the gas value.!
