Acer M1640 Aspire Screen black,no video or keyboard activity numlock or caplock lights Power supply good, hard drive runs,cd drive light up and will open and close but nothing comes up. I've seen this question before, but acer won't assist as the computer is over a year old (by 4 months). Any help would be appreciated.

Try removing the bios battery and unplugging the unit, wait about 5 minutes and put battery back in and plug computer back up. Try to boot, if you still have not video, try hooking up a different monitor.

If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LEDflashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faultyinverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Try a different power supply. Even though the CD drive lights up, it still needs to power your motherboard up which does not seem to be happening at all.

If the power supply doesn't solve it then the motherboard is bad.

One more thing: if you changed out the HD you probably did this, but make sure all the connections are tight. Take them out, plug them back in. Sometimes-- not very often-- this is the problem.

Aces Aspire M1640 desktop-pc starts but the monitor says NO SIGNAL. Tried various monitors and videocards without result. Can't find what mainbord is in it to have it changed. Regards, Toine

black out can be caused by series of things. Power supply is one. Second is the motherboard, memory and the processor aside from the video card. Motherboard and processor can be isolated, first is to remove the rest of the devices such as hard disk and cards and memory. Beep sound means your board is still doing fine. Re install all the devices and power on again. Good luck

Well you tried everything I would have recommended. I bet you anything it fried a cap or two on the motherboard- most likely will have to be replaced. Btw most batteries need to be removed overnight for it to completely reset.

Acer Aspire one notebook wont work! Help!

First off, does it power on....does the power on light show on the laptop when it is plugged into the wall outlet. If it does power on, do you hear the fan running and the hard drive clicking? Can you see if the hard drive indicator lights are active, they will be next to the power activity light. If you cannot see any lights at all, try another charger, the one you have may be faulty. If you can see a power light, but the laptop wont power on, then you very well have a motherboard issue...or your ac adapter is not putting out enough volts to actually power the system completely. Check power first, then think motherboard issue. You don't have to have a good battery in it if you are plugged into the wall outlet.
