Question about Toshiba Satellite A135-S4467 Notebook

1 Answer

Battery failure I've had my laptop for 11 months now and about a month ago the battery stopped holding power. If it's fully charged and I unplug it the computer is down to 25% in less than 20 minutes. Is there anything I try first before just going out and buying a new battery?

Re: Battery failure

Yes perhaps you can be sure if you BIOS up to date. latest version of BIOS is v1.20. This version has several important fixes including critical battery wake up. You can obtain the BIOS from Toshiba support website. I am adding the direct link for your convenience.

BIOS update is a critical process that you should close other applications and make sure computer is on AC power. the update process takes few minutes.

If the Issue persists after BIOS update you can think about replacing the battery, Just to remind you that usually brand new laptops warranty covers the battery for a year. So you have said that its only 11 months, you can think about using warranty.

Laptop sometimes switches off when moved.

Sounds like a loose connection where the laptop opens and closes hinge there are wires that run from the main screen to the main board. If you know how to take the unit apart it maybe a cheap fix if not then a new laptop maybe the way to go the prices have really dropped from 4 years ago

Battery wont work without the charger plugged in

All batteries have a FINITE amount of time before they can no longer hold a charge, if your battery is older then a year it is no longer covered under warranty either. Have you noticed prior to this that the battery was holding less and less of a charge? ALSO batteries do over heat and stop receiving a charge, best way to tell is to keep the laptop plugged in. unplug the battery for a minute, then plug it back in and see on your task bar if it says charging or plugged in not charging. let me know! good luck to you as well!

Lithium batteries mustn't be fully discharged or it can loss the possibility to recharge it: only every 2-3 months you have to dischage it until the pc shuts down and then recharge to preserve its capacity. Is normal that in the battery remain some volts but ther's no sufficent ampere to make works the pc, listen if someone has different ideas but I think you've to buy another one.

Now some time last year (more like 10 months ago). My laptop stopped charging the battery when connected to the outlet Via it's AC Adapter (Specifications: Input : AC100-240V Internal Diameter : 5.0mm...

These devices are more like cellphones. You charge it when it needed some charging. Once full, you remove it from the main plug and use the battery. If you do otherwise, it'll shorten the lifespan of the battery.

Running programs themselves do not directly cause damage to the physical device. They may form as one of the elements that can cause, say your processor to work harder and therefore needing more power from the battery. But apart from that I think it's wrong to say that programs themselves were the caused of the battery failure.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of using a plugged in Gateway laptop even if it is fully charged.

If you use your laptop plugged in while fully charged it will shorten the life of your battery so that after a few months of doing this the battery will only hold the charge for a short time.
If you need to use it plugged in when the battery is fully charged it's best to remove the battery first.

Acer Aspire 5738Z won't hold charge

Sorry. It seems that your battery is dead.
If your laptop is working fine on AC power only (with the battery disconnected), then your battery will need to be replaced.

Your battery pack has a typical life-span determined more in hours of use than by length of time owned. When they're near the end they won't hold a charge. This happens with cordless phones, cell phones etc. Batteries also come in different sizes (capacity/lifespan). People also use their machines and batteries differently - so it's hard to compare with someone else. When you get a new battery, get a higher capacity and use the power cord to keep the laptop charging as much as possible. - hope this helps :)

Laptop not showing light, power button not turning on, AC adaptor light constantly beeping faintly

Unplug the power cable... Hold the power button down for 15-20 seconds... Plug cable back in and check for light... If this still didnt work, then unplug cable again, take battery out, wait 10 seconds.... Put battery back in, plug cable back in and this should allow you to boot...
