Printing to dark and intense. tightened screws now the ribbon keeps breaking and not print properly

It's hard to say based on the fact that your have already tightened screws. Without knowing which ones this may have caused the issue. One of the screws on the printer head is a set screw for the angle. If this is not set correctly it may break the ribbon. Based on your description of the colored ripples this means you are printing too hot and the ribbon is wrinkling under the heat. The only way to adjust this is to alter the printers internal head resistence settings. You would either have to succefully print a test card, or look at the under side of the print head to find the value. This should not be adjusted more then 300 points from the default value on the print head itself. to adjust go to printers and faxes, and right click the printer, go to printer properties (or just properties), device options, tools, properties, in the command line you must put the new value.
!R_XXXX ( where "_" is a space, and the xxxx is the value on the print head. hope this helps.

Have tried to tape, wind, etc. as shown in the instruction manual but it repeatedly breaks. Interestingly enough when it does break it is always on the yellow panel which is entirely imprinted on the...

Ribbon breaks on those older models are usually traced back to only a couple of things.

1. The ribbon-type may be set incorrectly in the printer driver. The C30 and C30e color ribbon type if doing single- or dual-side printing in full-color is #044200 - YMCKO; the ribbon type if doing dual-side printing with full-color front and black-only back is #044210 - YMCKOK. Open the driver, then "Printing Preferences", select the "Device Options" tab and verify that the ribbon type setting matches what you're using. Note that you can only make a change to the setting if you have sufficient (Admin) Windows privileges.

2. There is a mechanical issue with the printer, where an o-ring is broken, or the head-lift motor has gone out. Either is very bad, as the printer has long been out of production and parts are no longer available. (But you can contact us for a replacement - new or refurbished!)

Good luck!

DataCard printer ribbon breaks

First, what color is it breaking on? Yellow, Magenta, Cyan, Black, Topcoat?

Next, I would do is clean all the rollers in the printer with isoprophyl alcohol (99% if you can find it, 91% is ok, 75% is you're in a bind). This is a common problem

Then, load the Printer Diagnostics from your print driver CD. In diagnostics, you can set the BASE POWER for YMC, K or Topcoat. The base power is totally different from intensity. As the printhead gets old, you may need to back off the intensity to keep the ribbon from breaking.

Lastly, take a look at the ribbon:
Is the image placed in the same spot of the ribbon on each panel or does it move (creep) higher or lower? This creeping action is caused by many things and would be best to be serviced by a technician.

Finally, printhead replacement. About $695 MSRP

Printer keeps breaking the ribbon

first, try to calibrate the ribbon, if it does not work, you probably have worn out rollers, and possibly a broken o-ring. if you want more info, call us at 310-671-8018, thanks adi

Ribbon keeps breaking

It might be because the printhead is heating up too high, and burning the ribbon.
Try lowering the heat in the driver.

Ribbon Breakage

You can try to lower printhead setting values (color and black), if not resolved then try another ribbon, old ones trend to fail this way.

Data card sp35 plus ribbon break

There could be either of the following issues:

1. Check the print head temperature to make sure that it is hot enough to transfer the ribbon to the card.

2. The surface of the PVC card may not be image compatible. Try another brand of card or opt to 60/40 composite cards for testing.
