Question about Acer Aspire 3680 Laptop

1 Answer

I have an acer aspire 3680. I started up my computer and it said replace hard drive, immenident failure possible. It gave me the option to run startup repair but as is going thru the process, its keep freezing. My question is that has my hard drive already failed? My only option that I can think of is order the recovery disc from acer and buy a new hard drive. Any ideas? I don't want to further damage my laptop by trying different things. Thanks for any input!

Sounds like a virus. Remove the drive from the laptop and connect it to another computer using a USB cable. These cables can be purchased for around $20 from tigerdirect.com or compusa.com. After it is connected, scan the drive for viruses using your desktop antivirus program. If you do not have an antivirus program, I recommend that you download Microsoft Security Essentials for free from Microsoft's download site. http://www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/

Cara mematikan mode smart pada aspire3680

If this is about hard disk drive SMART (Self Monitoring) warning. Acer Aspire 3680 BIOS does not have an option to turn off this warning. Basically, your hard drive is dying and you need to replace it with a good working hard disk drive because sooner or later your hard disk drive will stop working. You can clone your hard disk drive using an hdd cloning utility such a Farstone Clone Drive.

I have an Acer Aspire 3680 and about a month ago I had to replace my hard drive because it said a failure was immiment. I ordered the recovery disc from acer and totally re-done my laptop. Well last night,...

Whilst this error can occur due to a faulty hard drive or corrupt page file, but is also a symptom of faulty RAM memory. Unless you have heard "clunking" noises from your new hard drive, its unlikely to be the new disk this time.

Re-seat the memory first. If you have two memory modules installed try removing one at a time (see page 67 of the manual here ftp://ftp.work.acer-euro.com/notebook/aspire_5600/manual/AS%205600_3680.pdf )

Check the System Log in Event Viewer for additional error messages that might help pinpoint the device causing the error. Disabling memory caching of the BIOS might also resolve it. Finally, if all the above steps fail to resolve the error, take the system to a repair facility for diagnostic testing. If you the laptop is overheating, or you can't hear the fan running then fan failure might also be a possible cause.

Acer Aspire 3680 startup, blue screen & cursor only

  • prior to the recovery... have someone pull your hard drive and recover the "precious" files & pics on the drive... It's expensive at Best Buy... so watch out!!!
  • System recovery shouldn't have you loose all files.. if a recovery point is there... the trick is to only recover to the most recent point that you can. When Windows updates the software to Service Pack X for example, a recovery point would have been created automatically

Acer Aspire 3680 too slow

Sure but if it has acually been slowing down you must also find the problem. Have you disk cleaned up and defragged your hard drive lately. Cleaned out all the junk from your internet exploier?  Have you gotten rid of everrything that you don't need or want. Slowest thing in a computer is the Hard drive seek/read time.
According to you manual (Link below) You can have up to 4GB total memory. Two strips of 2GB each soDIMMs

Acer Aspire 3680 start up

This is generally caused by a hard drive failure. You can try to repair or reinstall the operating system with your recovery or operating system disc. If you have any issues or problems during or after the repair/reload then the hard rive has failed and will need to be replaced.

Trouble with startup

Sounds to me like file corruption (possibly from improper shutdown, or power failure). If so you can try a repair install (this is an option found before the format screen on XP SP2 Disks. I'm not sure about pre SP2 though) from your original Windoze installation CD (I do think it has to be SP2 though). The repair install will replace system files like .dlls and not lose data that you may require that is on your hard drive currently. If data recovery is not an issue, then you can preform a clean install.
Good luck.

MY VISTA WINDOWS WONT LOAD

Okay, I think I can help you but I need some more information. I'm assuming your Acer laptop currently has a version of Windows XP installed, yes? And Acer gave you a CD to upgrade your OS to a version of Windows Vista?

And when you mean that you go to your BIOS to access the CD, I'm assuming that you are talking about the boot options menu (selecting the cd drive vs the hard drive or floppy drive or what not) correct?

When you select the CD drive to boot from, what exactly happens? Do you get any error message? Does the computer turn off? Does it appear to try to load from the CD and then switch to your hard drive instead (and load your existing operating system)?
