Remove the food and the ice maker from the freezer ( if equiped ) . Remove the rear freezer panel . Using a hair dryer , start in the middle , below the coils , defrosting , until you see the drain hole . Use hot water to help defrost the hole . Once water starts going thru the hole , use a small hose inserted into the hole , and blow thru , to remove any unseen debris in the drain line . Use an ALUMINUM solid wire , 14-16 guage , with the insulation completely off , and insert one end into the drain hole as far as possible without any force . Wrap the other end about 1 1/2 to 2 turns , around the black rod (defrost heater) , above the hole . When refrig goes into defrost , the heat will transfer from the heater , to the wire , keeping the hole from freezing up again .

How to locate freezer drip tube?

look in back panel covering compressor, there should be a drain tube leading to a pan close by. if it's clogged, it is probably frozen, you may thaw it with a hair dryer, but it may melt plastic. if you don't want to do too much work... unplug it, and let it thaw over night with freezer door open.

If the water only forms during the defrost cycle, chances are that the defrost circuit is working as designed. That leaves the pan under the freezer coil in the freezer compartment and the drain tube from it to the pan at the bottom of the fridge. Check for and clear any obstruction in the drain tube. You'll probably have to empty the freezer and remove any ice making equipment in order to get to this area - which is behind the back panel.

You should unplug the fridge before attempting this. Be careful not to damage or pinch off any wire's insulation or refrigerant lines and coil during the dis-assembly and subsequent reassembly.

It may be that some growths have begun in the drain tube. After clearing the tube, could add about a 1/2 ounce of bleach into 3 or 4 ounces of water, and pour the mixture directly down the tube to kill anything that might be growing in it. If you decide to remove and empty the pan under the fridge - just remember there bleach in it. Spilling it will ruin clothes, etc.

I hope this helps! Good luck.

Freezer drain tube clogs causing water to drain

drain tube is clogging with debris or freezing? is there a pan under your fridge with a float valve on it, these pans are usually heated and the water evaporates, except when the factory doesnt hook up the wires, because it wont pass the eer rating, you can hook up after you, the consumer has purchased it , i know it sounds dumb but thats what viking does as well.
check that pan under your fridge and see if there are extra wires that are unplugged , plug them together(2) and good luck.
initially you will have to shut your fridge down for a couple of hours to defrost, but once you restart you should be good,
empty that pan under the fridge for now as well

What causes water to run in bottom of refrigarator

This is caused by plugged drain tube. When the freezer goes through a defrost cycle the water drains down a tube in the back of the freezer to the pan under the refrigerator. When this tube is plugged the water doesnt drain through the tube but drains through the vent in the refer. The easy way to fix this is to unplug the refrigerator for 24 hours.

Water driping from freezer to ref.I khow its pluged

The easy way to fix is unplug appliance - take back panel off freezer - melt ice in pan below evaporator - when ice is melted and you see drain tube mop water up with paper towel - with a measuring jug pour hot water into pan/tray below evaporator...repeat this at intervals of a few minutes 2-3 times moping water up each time with paper towel - next find something flexible to clear blockage in drain tube, curtain wire works - when you see water suddenly drain down tube blokage has cleared.

put back together and plug are good to go.

Hope this helped, if you need any further assistance of have questions please feel free to comment again.

Frigidaire side by side: water fills up in bottom of freezer

You have a blockage in your drain tube, at the bottom of the metal tray there is a hole which is connected to a tube which runs down the back of your refridge to a pan next to the compressor. It is an easy fix have done this 1000's times. Remove back panel in freezer, grab a heat gun or hair dryer and melt the ice it the bottom of tray. Clean the water in the tray with some paper towel next get some hot water in a measuring jug and pour into the pan(hot water will help melt ice in tube) repeat this process a couple of times and then get a curtain wire or something flexible to push down the pipe to clean the will know when the blockage is clear because the water in the pan will suddenly drain off....put cover back on...make sure to unplug appliance before servicing...hope this helps :)

Freezer drain plug

Self defrosting refrigerators as well as freezers all have a defrost drain system. This drain system can become plugged or frozen causing defrost drain water to back up into the refrigerator or freezer compartment. The water may gather under the crisper drawers on top freezer models. On side by side, bottom or stand alone freezers ice will build up in the freezer at the bottom and eventually leak out the door.

Plugged Defrost Drain - Freezer on Top (Water under the crisper drawers)

At the top of the refrigerator next to the temperature controls there usually is a cup-like part that carries the defrost drain water into a tube and out the back of the refrigerator to a defrost drain pan behind the unit. Pull the cup out of the tube and clean the cup with hot water and soap. If there is no cup, pull the refrigerator out away from the wall, go behind it and disconnect the drain tube to clear it. If the drain tube is not accessible from the back or the drain can not be cleared from there the main back panel in the freezer can be removed to access, thaw and flush out the drain under the cooling coil.

Use a turkey baster to flush HOT water into the tube to clear any obstruction. The water squirted into the tube should end up in the defrost drain pan.

If the tube will not clear with hot water try blowing it out with compressed air.

Put the cup back on and make sure it is all the way on or in the tube.

Plugged Defrost Drain - Side By Side, Bottom-Freezer Refrigerator or Stand Alone Freezer

The defrost drain pan is located at the bottom of the freezer compartment behind the back wall of the freezer. On some models, the pan is accessible without removing the back panel and others are not. After you get to the defrost drain pan use a hair dryer to melt the ice from the pan.

Once the ice is removed use a turkey baster to squirt HOT water into the drain hole to clear the drain.

When the drain is clear you should hear or see the water you are squirting into the hole enter the pan under or behind the refrigerator.

Layer of water on bottom of freezer, causing problem opening bottom drawer, having to use hair dryer to thaw.

If it is a frostless your drain tube is plugged. The water cannot go through the whole to the drip pan so it flows over into the freezer. Unplug the freezer and leave the door open all day to thaw. Or take the back wall out of the freezer and unthaw the drain tube with hot water and a hair dryer.

Ice acculumates in the bottom of freezer

Defrost drain tube is plugged. Drain is a round hole about the size of a quarter below the evaporator coils. (behind back wall of freezer.) Take a turkey baster with hot (not boiling) water and shoot it into the drain hole until water runs through it (into drain pan under refrig.)
