6 months old. never was out of water supply
Problem
Extremely noisy pump, that vibrates, expresso cups, sitting on the top of the machine while having a shot. I use only distilled water (1-2ppm minerals). Does it mean the pump is going bad, or is it normal wih this machine. I know my coffee grinder is not giving me fine enough ground coffee.
Hey Folks. My Silvia was doing something similar to this after no less than 2 weeks of operation.
Not being too worried about the warranty for just opening the case and looking inside......I did so. Be careful. Unplug as you remove various panels. Just don't touch anything with wires. You can see your problem if it is the same that I had.
Remove water res. Remove SS top. To view the pump, I had to remove the SS shield separating the reservoir from the boiler area. You will find the pump attached to the bottom of the chassis. It is supported by a rather flimsy rubber mount. Mine was collapsed to one side.......and the pump was literally banging against the chassis. Yes.....that will rattle your cups sitting atop the machine. To prove that your pump is not held securely in its mount, actuate the ON switch and observe the pump. Use only short burst of power when viewing your pump as you are NOT
pushing water thru the assembly....and of course, all those electrical
shock hazards that exist.
If it is shaking side to side......that is your problem.
I took a piece of hot water pipe insulation that I had out in the garage and cut it to the length from pump fitting to exterior wall of cabinet. IU think that might have been about 4.25 inches (I fixed this problem over two months ago and can't remember the actual length). The insulation piece is very light and holds the pump quite securely in place precluding the side to side vibration and the terrible noise. The split in the insulation allowed for the water line to be held securely as it comes out of the pump.
Reinstall all shielding parts, etc.......and you should be back on your way to minimal pump noise espresso shot pulling!!

Can you supply a thermostat for a Rancilio Silvia? the one required is T3 in the wiring diagram, and is between the on/off switch and the heating element. In the diagram it is described as "thermostat 165º". The actual stat is marked "Ty 80-R Campini, 16/250~ T210. If available, please quote full price and postage, and terms. Thanks, Colin

Hi, last week I purchased the Rancilio Silvia Espresso Machine. For most of this time I have been having near perfect coffee. Today for some reason, the shot has poured way too quickly resulting in weak coffee. The grind appears to be fine, I have tampered it the same as I have over the past week, the only thing that seems to be happening is the water coming out too quickly. Can you see a solution to this promblem? thankyou.

I have a Rancilio Silvia about 2 years old. About 10 days ago I did a descale and backflush process, (very little came out) but now it is leaking from the right hand side when facing machine (but only when turned on) from the gap between the base and the body. I suspect it is the 3 way solenoid valve, but would like some advice before we attempt a repair. Is this a symptom of solenoid breakdown and is it a self repair job for a handyman husband?
