If you need to ask "how", then STOP, and take the computer to a qualified technician for trouble-shooting, and _safe_ disassembly/reassembly of your computer.

DVD drive

Try reinstalling the DVD driver first also check the BIOS to see if the DVD drive is detected.
If these do not solve the problem then the DVD drive is faulty and needs to be replaced.

Xbox 360 DVD Drive Not Reading Games Only DVD,CD after replacing the dvd rom

If you replaced the DVD-ROM drive yourself, some newer Xboxes do not recognize and/or function properly with older drives. I tried replacing a drive in an older Xbox with an older yet DVD-ROM drive, and it would not work. When replacing a DVD-ROM in an Xbox, it is advisable to use the same model drive, as the Xbox does strange things when you introduce different hardware. The url of a page is below that details the different drives that Xboxes use. See if your new drive is the same as the old one, and if not, that is almost certainly the issue.

Can I replace philips dvd-rom 6216/44 with philips dvd-rom 6316/97

The 6216/44 looks like a standard IDE DVD ROM drive and the 6316/97 would almost certainly work as a replacement. However, since it is a standard drive I would be inclined to replace it with a new DVD-RW drive instead. There are many makes available, you do not need to use a philips drive. Amazon have a wide selection of drives.

It sounds like you need to replace your drive. If you've tried multiple cd/dvd's you probably need to replace the drive.

My xbox 360 has stopped reading all my games, they aren't scratched and i tried xbox.com and none of the steps helped. How do i fix it?

Most likely it is just a bad DVD drive. You can try and clean the laser on the DVD drive by dis assembling your Xbox 360 and taking out the DVD drive and disassembling that. or you can replace the DVD drive.

***If your Xbox 360 is within 3 years of purchase, I recommend sending it to Microsoft to take advantage of their warrenty***

if not, then lets get started. disassembly procedures would take too long to type so I'm just going to post a link! these are detailed directions and pictures of how to take an xbox 360 apart. you will only need to go as far as taking the top of the case off.

for the DVD drive, take all the screws out of the bottom and take the top shell off. now you will see the laser. take Isopropyl alcohol and a que tip and in a circular motion by spinning the que tip in your fingers on top of the laser. then clean the laser with the dry side of the que tip for good measures. in most cases, i have not seen this work with a DVD drive not reading discs but it is cheaper than the next method.

to replace the DVD drive, you need to figure out the exact DVD drive model your Xbox 360 has. all the information you will need is on the label on the DVD drive you have. once you have your replacement DVD drive, take the green pC board out of the original DVD drive ( i kno Philips BenQ drives require some de-soldering). then take out the green PC board in the new DVD drive. you dont need the PC board out of the new DVD drive so you can throw that away. after that is out of the new DVD drive, take the old PC board and re-install it into the new DVD drive. assemble the DVD drive again and plug it into the xbox to see if it works.

Plays dvd but not games

When you replaced the DVD drive did you swap the circuit board (on the bottom of the DVD drive when you open it up).

Every DVD drive is "paired" with the Xbox 360, so you need to open up the DVD drives, and swap the green circuit boards on the bottom of the DVD drives. Should work after this.

Had hitachi drive, installed samsung drive. Now it won't play games

If you had a Hitachi drive you need a Hitachi drive to replace it, unless you want to get into very complicated stuff and messing with firmware, etc.

You can get a Hitachi drive for about $28 from this site: http://parts.consolerepairguy.com

All you have to do is put the old circuit board from the DVD drive (open it up and take it off of the bottom) into the new DVD drive.

Hope that helps!

Toshiba P105-S6124 DVD Drive replacement.

there is usually one screw holding the dvd drive in, lay the PC closed, upside down, and lay the replacement drive in line with the old drive, this may tell you the exact location, or where to look (it may be under another removable panel, once the one screw is removed, the drive should slide out, if you eject the drawer, it is easier to remove after you pull out the screw, most have a manual eject (Pinhole in front by eject button) insert a straightened paper clip straight in. let me know if this helps or you need more info

I'd suggest you change the drive,, DVD DRIVES FOR LAPTOPS are usually standered parts Take the drive out and buy one and replace it. I dont think you laptop might require a special drive Laptop usually carry standered drives meaning any one should work.
