Question about GE D52GW12 52" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

2 Answers

On my 5 year old GE Rear Projection TV, there was a pop, and then a sizzle and then it shut off. Now every time I try to turn it on there is a sizzle in the back and it shuts off after a few seconds. There is also a chemical burning smell that fills the air near the tv. Any thoughts?

Thanks, this was very helpful. Would you have any idea what this might cost to repair? I'm not a pro so I can't do it myself. I'm trying to do the cost-benefit analysis on repair vs. buying new. What would you suggest considering this tv is 5 years old?

The problem is with the voltage capacitors and transformers on power circuit board. Some of them has burnt off and so only you are having this smell and popping sound. You have to take voltage readings and test power supply components such as bridge rectifiers and capacitors. If there is no voltage rating you need to replace that part if not you have to check the soldering joints and solder it again.

My Mitsubishi Medallion tv stays on for about 10 minutes and then shuts down and won't turn back on until a period of time has passed. It is a rear projection tv about 9 years old. Can anyone help ex

When it shuts off and the green power light goes off, press both the menu and input buttons on the front of the set (not the remote) and hold both for about five seconds and release.

Power light will blink a two digit error code like 2 blinks and then 3 blinks and repeat it several times.

What is the error code?

Tv made sizzle pop sound and went out

All depending on the models, but i have seen and work on may units with this problem, there are a few large capacitors on the power supply that are sometimes doubly secured with glue, that in turn becomes conductive and causes faults like this. check all the large capacitors for any low or nil readings and with a fine point probe, carefully remove the glue on the and around the caos, and elsewhere if you see any. Good Luck.

Projection tv not working

I guess loud sizzling was from High Voltage Splitter in your TV. HV seems cracked and leaking high voltage.

You can observe and confirm it by removing back cover and power up TV from distance and check at rear of TV. Please take care and there should be little dark to observe arc from HV splitter.

If this is the case, HV splitter available in Part Store.
