Question about Whirlpool Ultimate Care II LSQ9549L Top Load Washer

1 Answer

Agitator I have a whirlpool ultimate care ll. In August of 2006 I had to have sears come out and repair the washer. The problem then was that the agitator would wash the clothes but it would not spin. The other day I noticed the agitaor will move clockwise and occasionally counterclockwise. Does this mean that there is a problem. I am afraid that the agitator is going to stop working. If it is a problem how do you fix it.

The thing is I don't think the agitator is moving correctly during the
wash cycle. Should it go all around, the bigger the load the less it
moves. You can hear the noise it makes but i don't think it moves as
    freely with larger loads.

Thanks!!! Maybe I need to just go to bed and quit obsessing about the washer machine. Kelly

Bottom agitator spins but the top piece is loose like something is missing. The top piece of the agitator and the soap despensor just come right of and spin freely... there is nothing holding it on. Looks...

Whirlpool has a split agitator design. The upper portion is called the auger, while the bottom is called the agitator. Between these components is a agitator cam assembly. This problem is commonly caused by worn agitator dogs on the agitator cam assembly. The following link explains what the dogs are and how to replace them:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r823955-replacing_agitator_dogs

The part number is included in the link provided. You can purchase replacements at appliancepartspros.com for about $5. For a little more you can purchase the entire cam replacement kit, which includes the cam, the thrust bearing, and the dogs. If the model number you listed this under is correct, the part number for the kit is AP3094543 and sells for about $11.

NOTE: You can refer to the excellent exploded view parts diagrams the web site has to offer for assistance. Whirlpool also recommends the application of a little grease on the thrust washer. The part number for their recommended grease is AP3098553.

If you have any questions about this repair, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

Remove the fabric softner cup. Remove cover underneath it by pulling up on it. It just snaps in and has a seal on it. Remove the bolt and lift up the upper agitator. You will need to get an agitator repair kit from an appliance parts store. It has seals for bolt and cap,.thrust washer for the botttom of upper agitator , cam dogs and a new holder and plate. Be sure to take the model number with you.

My whirlpool ultimate care 2 washer works great, however, the agitator misses and clicks before it catches up

Is this a two piece agitator? You may just need dogs, they are inside the agitator. Rotate the top of the agitator back and forth, top should engage the bottom portion when turning counter clockwise.

The ***** part of the agitator is supposed to ratchet in the clockwise direction. this is normal. If you can spin it in either direction (turned off) then you need a set of agitator dogs.
