HOW TO FORMAT A WRITE PROTECT USB DRIVE

MY KINGSTON DATA TRAVELER SAY WRITE PROTECTED HOW CAN I FORMAT IT CAUSE WHEN I FORMAT IT DIRECTLY IT SAY DEVICE IS WRITE PROTECTED BUT MY USB DEVICE DOES NOT HAVE THAT KIND OF SPECIFICATION TO HAVE A WRITE PROTECT DISK.
I had same problem. I fix it with suggestion of 1st guest. I download program from site http://www.apacer.com/en/support/downloads/Repair_v2.9.1.1.zip, and program formated USB and he work fine now. TY for advice.

Its a problem with the drive. cantact manuactuer for help and replacement

My kingston flash drive had the following symptoms:
- Could read data
- Couldn't write/format ("write-protection error")
- Every file had the "archive" flag set. (attrib command in dos prompt)
It was fixed running the low-level formatting utility from Apacer website.

Be careful to have only the flash drive you need to repair connected to your computer, as the software is quite 'interfaceless', and doesn't even allow you to choose which drive you want to format - seems to me it assumes the first removable drive available.

Download "AH320 LFormat Utility" below link make a low level format.It fixed my data traveller.

You can download the kingston utility for windows 98 then you can just right click the execube (.exe) then go to compatibily and select WIndows 98 and then try running it.

Found this on Kingston's support page.

1. Verify that you are allowed to write to removable storage devices. There may be a security setting in the OS that disables write access to removable storage devices.
2. Make sure you have not enabled write protection on the drive by using a third party software.
3. If none of the above apply, the drive may be defective. Contact Kingston Technical Support for further assistance.

First try to see is there any lock in your usb pen drive and see if its not locking the pen drive, because some pen drives comes with that option to protect usb ..if its not

I had used an encryption utility for imation on my kingston and it locked it up and i couldnt open it with the app or any other solution until i tried the app suggested by: Solution #2 posted on Jul 12, 2008 http://www.apacer.com/en/support/downloads/Repair_v2.9.1.1.zip Though brutal, and it said it didn't work, afterwards I was able to format with any other utility. no more locked drive. Thanks to whoever posted it.

I had the same kind of problem with my 32GB Transcend drive. I tried all the things I found in the internet (Apacer software, Registry fixes, Kingston software, HP Flash Disk software, you name it!) but nothing worked. Always I got Write protected error. Finally I found the program called MiniRMATool which solved the problem. Search MiniRMATool_XP2K_v1.rar in Google, run it and then you will be able to format your drive.

It worked great. I tried many tools from hp and others but this tool formatted my Kingstom DT1 4GB USB. Now my USB is working fine.
I had the problem "Disk is write protected" when formatting the disk.

yes my problem of write protection was solved by solution number 3 that with the user name gowthm1992. i just downloaded the file from the link and conented my usb with pc.and run that file.the file formatted the usb. and after that i formatted the usb by my self by right clicking on it this helped me alot u can also try it. thanks

Just dont forget to remove your flash drive even if the utility says it failed.. and format the drive with disk management.. And its done!

I search on internet for  MiniRMATool_XP2K_v1.rar but I can't find it. Someone that have this tool can share it please. Thanks.
