Plug your iPod into a wall charger, let it lie for a couple of hours. When these batteries become completely flat, it won't easily charge through computer usb, so try the wall charger, see if it works.

SOURCE: Apple Ipod Classic

Your logic board has probably went out. This is the board that controls all of the things the ipod does like the back light and volume and stuff like that. The logic board is around $50 and should be replaced by a professional.

Will not charge or turn on

Plug your Ipod into your computer. Hold down both the Menu Button (on/off button) and the center button( just below the screen) for 15-30 seconds. You should see the Apple sign after that time. Mine died and was revived this way.

Keeps on charging. wont work unplugged

This may me a problem with the ipod's battery, where it may be completely dead and can no longer hold a charge. All you need to do is replace the battery, which is usually very cheap even with labor. That should handle that problem.

My ipod wont turn on. ive have tried to reset it but it still wont work.

Sounds like the logic board is broken if it doesn't turn on with any chargers or any computers. You can try to replace the motherboard yourself, the part is available on any auction website. There is an iPod classic Repair service that can fix it for you. There is an iPod classic repair guide that can show you how to do the repair yourself.

Dead ipod

If it's frozen, a simple reset should do the trick. Just hold down the "Menu" button and the middle button for about 7-8 seconds
