Question about Air Tools & Compressors

Portable air compressor won't start

My Husky portable air compressor was running when we had a power outage, and now it will not power back on. (Flip the switch, nothing happens at all.) Is there possibly a cheap fix, or am I better off just purchasing a new (more reliable) Porter Cable?

To be honest with you your compressor is what is commonly referred to as a throw away. You can't even imagine how many times I have posted that in the past month for your compressor and similar ones, such as the 3 gallon 1.5 hp craftsman.

The Porter Cable Is more reliable or rather it used to be. I believe that there are so many manufactures around the world pumping these things out that in order to get a reliable compressor you have to do it through the warranty. I know Senco makes a pretty good portable compressor. I believe Home Depot carries it and the cost is around $125.00.

That said your compressor may be salvageable so don't write to Santa just yet.
Almost all compressor,(even the throw a ways), come with a reset switch. The problem is finding it.
If you don't have your manual then start looking. You may need to remove the plastic shroud to locate it. All it is is a small black or red plastic button about a 1/4" in diameter.
Since you stated that there was a power outage that kind of rules out loose wiring or incorrect extension cord size. You may want to check the breaker though. You may have already but check it again. You want to turn it off and on a couple times to see or rather feel if the breaker itself has became compromised.
I hope something here helps.

After I read your "Testimonial" I wasn't sure if you checked the other possible causes I added at the end of my solution regarding the reset switch and the breaker. I hope you check those before you give up on the compressor because throw away or not money is money. So please don't toss it out until you checked those items.

Also I am going to stick a link here just in case. You might be able to find parts for your compressor here.
    Good Luck.

Air conditioner compressor runs for about 1-2 min, then cuts off

well when u have outages the voltage drops obviously, the one that suffers are the capacitors the capacitor for the compressor might need to change, change it with the same capacity as the old one example if labels say 55 microfarady ( mf ) ( 55 mf ) get one of the same I am not saying it is a 55 mf capacitor vary depending on motor and brand. So check the label

Husky air compressor/1.5 hp

Compressors pull a lot of juice that is why they come with a large power cord. If you use a small extension cord with it it will easily pop a breaker. So first check all your breakers. Second thing is check your manual to see if you have a reset switch on you compressor, as most do. It should be a small, red switch (rocker or push button type), located between the pump motor and compressor switch. The third is a long shot, check to see if the bleeder valve is functioning correctly. It will be the small copper tube running from the pump to the switch. Just make sure the small lever is free to move.

If this fails to resolve the problem then it is probably the main switch itself. That is a warranty issue. If it's out of warranty then your going to have to either repair or replace the switch yourself. Please feel free to ask for help if you need it in latter case.
