Question about Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS Digital Camera
Hello and welcome to Fixya!
There could be a few things causing this issue. The slide motor could be worn out on the lens ( the motor that opens and closes the lense)
the camera could have been dropped.
Before trying any DIY fixes, if the camera is still under warrnaty, you should turn it in for a warranty repair first. If that is not an option then proceed.
There are a few DIY fixes you could try, but more then likely you will have to pay to have it fixed. If the lens will open and close, you can put the camera lens down on a soft cloth, and slightly press on it while you turn it on and off, the lens will try to open, and the pressure you apply to it might cause the slide motor to get back on track. Apply the pressure as it closes to.
Also look at the lens it self, If some of the shutters on the lens look like they aren't lined up properly, then try to re-align them with your thumb gently.
If none of these work, try taking a can of compressed air and blowing iinto the lens slide assembly as the camera opens and closes, its possible that a small piece of dirt or lint has gotten into the barrel and is causing the malfunction.
Other then that, there are websites and repair centers that can fix this type of issue.
Here is a link to one of them
And here is a link to Canon, you can enquire with them about the warranty on the device, or you can also purchase a replacement at a discount.
