Toshiba 52HM95 whirring noise

Toshiba 52HM95 52 in. HDTV Television problem: A whirring noise has developed that is much louder than the normal fan noise. It continues for several minutes after the TV is turned off. (About the same timespan that the fan keeps running). Is this more likely a fan problem or a color wheel problem?

Color wheel. Not replacable on this set. Removing light engine and having rebuilt is only solution. Part no longer available.

Dear jbredding,
This is a color wheel problem. The Color Wheel is not available. You have to send Light Engine to Factory for repair. Factory repair is around $250 plus shipping and handling. It is not the easiest part to replace. Service Company will charge about $450..
Have the Light Engine repaired it is about $500. cheaper then replacing it.

maxie99,

Fan is available at https://www.encompassparts.com/webwiz/wwiz.asp?wwizmstr=WEB.SEE&partnumber=6475656&smodel=52HM95 for about $80.00. Replacement should be as simple as unplugging the fan cord and removing a couple screws to remove. Do the work with the unit unplugged from the wall. Reverse the procedure to install the new unit.

Thanks for using FixYa and the great rating.

I've got a Toshiba 52HM95 that's several years old. It's been making a grinding noise for a while. A few months ago I took the back off to investigate. The problem went away. But, now it's back. I have a...

The grinding noise sounds like it could be the fan blade hitting the housing. Have your verified that it is the fan that is making the noise? Does the fan feel loose or rub the housing when turned? Well you have already purchased another fan and have gone this far so I say continue dis-assembly if it is the fan. If you were looking to get a new TV then get one but don't trash this one. If you repair it you could sell it or give it to a friend/family member. A new 52in HDTV is not that cheap.

There is a really loud whirring noise when it

The Color Wheel in the Optical Engine is what is most likely causing the problem. It is a very expensive part and I would call Toshiba at 1800-631-3811 and see if they could help you with the cost and also referring a Service Repair Facility to you.
I hope this helps,

Our TV is making a loud humming noise. We think

It's likely your color wheel rather then your fan. I've replaced quite a few of these and the fans are usually good. Get and estimate - I generally charge $250-350 Total
also google your model # and color wheel to investigate further.

I'm not sure if you are aware of this, but the 52HM95 tv has 3 fans inside. I believe one of them runs all the time.
