Question about Combination Televisions
I have a 26 inch Magnavox LCD/DVD combo model 26md255v. Local repairman told me I could remove and replace the dvd player myself and that I could use dvd drive from a local computer shop, as long as it has the same connectors. Problem is the computer shops say they can't help me because they have no way of knowing if the connectors will match.... UGH!
I have the DVD player out and I have put the TV back together as it is my monitor as well and it is still working, so I must be doing something right. In the metal box I had to dissassemble to remove the DVD player itself is a mother board that I am assuming that I need to find a player that will clip into the existing connectors.
The player itself has a green sticker that says "TYPE: 260TV*LEFT" and a little green sticker in it says 260TV50820C1791 h# Any help locating a replacement dvd would be greatly appreciated.
What I know is that Magnavox won't help, they just offer to sell me a whole new unit. Thank you.
Yes, for a workaround. The adapter would be 2 RCA female to 1 RCA male. You have to connect both the red and white to the female RCAs and use the male to connect to the TV's Audio INput. The yellow goes to the video. There should be no negative technical effect other than lost of stereo quality. The audio output of the DVD is line level and could normally tolerate this condition.
The correct method is to use a simple line level audio mixer and mix the L& R audio signal to produce a mono signal or to use a stereo amplifier for the sound output.
Hope this be of some help/idea. Pls post back how things turned out or should you need additional information.
Good luck and kind regards.

It is most likely a bad IR diode underneath the prisim in the VCR, common failure for those combination units. I have used a simple generic diode from Radio Shack or you can spend a little more and get the politically correct part from almost any electronics vendor like Vance Baldwin ot Tritronics.
Be observant when installing these they are polorized and go in only one direction. Getting one in reverse will burn up the new diode instantly.
