Question about Air Purifiers

1 Answer

I replaced a Lennox DSL-450LX heat pump thermostat with a Honeywell RTH3100C. Everything works except the gas does not ignite when set to emergency heat. The Lennox was wired as follows: W = white wire Y1 = yellow wire G = green wire R = jumpered to 24V 24V = red wire 24V(c) = blue wire O = orange wire (brown and black wires not used) I labelled the wires as I disconnected them with the stickers from the RTH3100C package. I followed the instructions as best as I could and wired the Honeywell as follows: AUX = white wire Y = yellow wire G = green wire O = orange wire R = red wire C = blue wire E = small wire jumpered to AUX per instructions (There's a note on the inside of the honeywell that says that C is optional with batteries installed, but I wired it anyway.) Any ideas why the gas won't ignite during eHeat?

Thanks! It is actually a heat pump system with gas for aux/emergency heating. It has two heating modes. 1) Heat, which uses the compressor/heat pump system to heat the house, and 2) E-Heat mode, which bypasses the compressor and uses a gas furnace in the attic and blows through the same duct work as the heat pump system. It's the builder's design. Personally I can't see why they went with heat pumps if they were going to put in gas furnaces as backups anyway. It would have been cheaper to go with AC units instead of heat pumps.

Hi, If indeed you do have a heat pump, there wouldn't be any gas involved as a heat pump runs on freon with a reversing valve and heat strips for aux and emerg. heat. For gas electric operation thermostat terminals are rc to rh with factory jumper. Red wire to either.W to W for Heat, Y to Y for cooling G to G for Fan. If you have a blue, you wont need it unless this is a commercial stat useing a common for the Led lights on the stat. The unit will get its 24volts through R terminal in combination with y,w,and,g. Cant be a heat-pump if you have a gas furnace.Wrong t-stat. You need a gas /elect stat. And on a 24volt programmable t-stat, the batterys are used for the program only.If the batterys die, than you will loose the program on most residential stats. On commercial stats with the common in play, when batters die the stat defaults back to the factory settings. If you had a Lennox heat-pump stat on a gas/elect unit, you need to change it. Someone was using what they had on hand. Let me know if this has helped you.I will be here if you need me. Sincerely,

Hi, that threw me on the gas aux on a heat pump as I have to admit, in this field you learn something new everyday. It looks to me that you have terminated correctly, I would leave the common . Try disconnecting the jumper you have E and see if the furnace fires.

Hi, I am sure you have got the solution by now, if not you need to remove the red jumper to fire the gas. I should have focused on your wiring terminations better. I am sorry its been awhile.

New a/c - furnace installed, no instruction manual, it is 23 degrees outside, and I have no idea how to turn on heat instead of a/c. Need thermostat instructions.

Usually just put the thermostat fan on auto, the a/c heat switch to heat and set the temperature where you want it. If it's a gas furnace, you will need to light the pilot. Usually instructions are on the furnace door, maybe inside furnace door.

Honeywell F300E not cleaning air.

A newly installed system should still be under the contractor's labor warranty. Call them and ask them to come out to check on the unit and explain what you wrote above. This should cost you nothing and is the best way to get to the bottom of the problem.
