Although these are great machines, they have had their share of problems. I say that your problem is the control board. You will need a little more info. There is a series or Rev number close to the model number. If you unit is prior 88 series you will need the conversion kit. It runs around $290.00 and comes with a new motor and the control board . If it's not prior 88 series you will only need a motor control assembly that runs around $240.00.(Printed circute) It is only the control where the prior 88 series comes with the control and motor.
With the parts costing so much, although I work on these all the time. I suggest that you get a repair technician to come out and diagnose the unit. I feel sure this is the problem but there is a chance that it could be something really simple like a crossed wire or a small switch. Before I could tell you to spend this much money, I would rather you get someone there to put their hands on it first.
I know this didn't really help but maybe it will shed a little light on whats going on. Like I stated, these are real good machines. They just had a few problems. This is why they have the conversion kits for it. They figured out the problem and now offer a better part than what came on the first models. Have a great day and good luck.

I have a whirlpool cabrio washer for a while now here and there i was pulling out soaking wet clothes.and ofcourse my warranty ran out yesterday and now it will not start any cycle all its does is sense...

This particular washer has a test that we can run to see any errors. This can be confusing on this model.
I am including a document below that will describe how to view the old error codes. Use the section that starts with Activating the service diagnostic modes. You can start with the cycle selector knob at any position.
  1. Be sure the washer is in standby mode (plugged in with all indicators off).
  2. Perform the following sequence of movement using the cycle selector knob. NOTE: After reset, sequence "a" through "e" must be completed within 6 seconds. When it tells you to rotate the cycle selector knob, it means 1 click, not a full turn. Once you have completed the cycle knob turns reset and "a" through "e", turn the cycle selector 1 click clockwise from the position it is already in. This is the fault code display mode. Then press the start button. Each time you turn the cycle selector knob 1 click clockwise after pressing start will show you an error code. Note: this washer stores 4 codes if any. The error codes on this washer are displayed in this format: F5 E3, F7 E1, etc. There is an error code chart in the image below.
If there are no error codes stored, I recommend that you start from the beginning (step 1 above) and then run the Automatic test mode. If this unit detects a problem, it will display the error at the end of this test.
Here is a list for the errors.
Post back your results.

Hi i have an indesit w 123s washing machine, that set to any program it doesnt move on it just does that setting, then if you turn the machine off and set it to end program you can reset to rinse and the...

hello try restting it before you bin it
  1. Turn the washing machine off with the on off button.
  2. Turn the selector knob to a dot, or any off position
  3. Turn the washing machine back on and watch for rapid flashing on the neon light
  4. Turn the washing machine off and select the new program (or maybe spin)
  5. Turn it back on and the new program should start
NOTE: Resetting the timer selector knob as shown above may stop the clicking round, but if your washing machine has a fault, the clicking round may return when your washing machine encounters the fault again. If your washing machine's program selector knob is clicking round on its own, then read the section above Washing machine stops with lights flashing hope it helps

I'd like to know the key sequence I need to press to be able to self-diagnose the problem I've got with my zanussi washing machine. ZWF1640.

To display Error Code:
Move Programme Selector to the Off postion.
Press the 2 buttons on the right and turn the selector 1 position clockwise and hold the 2 buttons for about 5 seconds until all the lights are flashing. Release buttons and turn the selector to the 10th position. The Error Code will be displayed.
Note the code then turn the selector to off ,then on,then off again.

The cycle selector knob turns very fast and the wash goes from the fill mode to the drain mode and does not wash or spin.

the problem is with the selector.behind this, ther is a wheel with teeth.one of the teeth must be broken, causing the selector to turn too fast.

How do I remove the selector knob on washer

The main selector control know spins off by turning the selector inner knob counterclockwise. The outer ring will then pull off. The other knobs are held on with friction and should just pull off.

The best way to get behind the front panel is by removing the top panel of the machine. There should be 2 gray/solver tabs at the back of the machine near the top if you remove the 2/4 screws from the top then the whole top panel will slide forward then lift off.

Be sure to unplug the machine first.

How to remove the washer cycle selection/start-stop knob on a Whilpool Heavy Duty Thin Twin stacked washer dryer

I believe the selector knob on a Whirpool just has to be turned counter-clockwise with the selector pushed in. It will spin off the shaft and then the outer indicator dial will pull off. The shaft also has a keyed slot that will only allow the dial to be removed and installed one way, so there should be no question as to how it goes back on.

Was there a reason as to why you are removing the washer selector knob? If this is a simple matter of replacing a broken water temperature selector, you shouldn't have to remove any of the control knobs to gain access to the selector. The entire front panel comes off by removing the screws holding it in place. That way you can access the broken selector from behind the front panel much easier. Just remove the panel right above the washer top (under the dryer) and it should expose the front panel mounting screws. Remove these screws and the front panel comes off. Just make sure the unit is unplugged before you begin. I hope this helps you. Let me know if you need further assistance.
