I am looking for a reason for the error or solution, asking me to bang or tap on the device is not comforting in that I do not want to cause further harm to the camera

This has to be the common failure mode or a digital camera. Some common error messages that might show up on the LCD's of cameras with this problem include “E18 lens error”, or “lens error, restart camera”.

The problem is actually quite common throughout all camera brands. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism.

The methods are listed in the order of risk of damaging your camera. Thus make sure you try them in the listed order. And remember, these fixes (especially #6 and #7) should only be considered for a camera that's out of warranty, who's cost of repair would be excessive, and would otherwise be considered for disposal if unrepaired: Review here for the solution steps.

Hope helped with this.

This is problem of lens mechanism when it gets stuck/ broken/ misaligned or its optical sensors become defective.
In all above said cases lens mechanism does not send initialize/ reset signal to system control chip that cause 'turn power off and on again' error message.
Need to replace lens assembly in camera to fix this problem.
Some times tapping camera gently solve the problem if lens mechanism stuck, broken or misaligned status can not be corrected by tapping.
If you want to replace lens assembly by yourself, let me know to provide you part number info.
Thanks.

Turned off compaq presario desktop and now it wont turn back on. I used the start menu to shut down. Everytime I press the power button a light flashes over a symbol that looks like a lightbulb. Help

Hello,

Try the following:
1. If connected to surge protector, make sure it's on. If it is, then...
2. Try plugging computer directly into wall and turn on...if no then...
3. Unplug and plug the power cord back in and then try to turn on...if nogo then...
4. If there's a switch on the back of your pc that has 120/240. Switch it back and forth back from 240 back to 120, turn on again...if no go then...
5. Unplug everything from the back of your pc except power cord, keyboard, mouse, and monitor. Try again. If it still doesn't turn on.. let me know. By chance, has any power outage occured or any change been done to pc since it was last turned on?

LG 42pc3r, Starting problems.

First thing to try is a power drain:

1. Unplug the product's power cable so that the device is not grounded to the house. Do not simply turn off the power-bar if one is in use.
2. Press and hold in the products power button for 1 minute to release the retained electricity from the capacitors and circuit board. 3. Plug the product back into the wall outlet rather than a power-bar to rule it out of contributing to the problem and turn the device back on.
If this doesn't solve the issue, it sounds like your TV's connection between the power supply and the mainboard is defective. If the power supply was shot, you would hear nothing at all. I hope the above step helps.

Hi melnavz,

Hello!
Make sure that the battery hold firmly in the mother board and should no be drain out or busted to hold the time setting in the cmos. this is the only things that you need to observe. if the system keeps on asking the setting then battery is the main problems that cannot hold the time setting in the cmos.

tell me if problem still occur.

The lens element is damaged internally and needs to be replaced as an entire unit. The camera runs through a "self check" each time it is powered up and it is detecting an error in the lens. Ship this unit to Sony in Laredo, TX. The warranty may not apply if they see there is impact damage to the lens. The flat rate repair charge will not apply here either due to physical damage to the lens element. be sure to request an estimate before the work is performed. Hope this helps you, we see this problem all the time with digital cameras that have lenses which extend during operation. Joe Weibel Custom Electronics (customelectronics.org)
