This is a common problem. Its called a convergence failure.

Problem #1) Convergence

Symptoms:

Screen Looks 3D
Colors wont align
Video may look distorted

Problem #2 CRT Fluid has clouded over. Symtoms

Dull looking video
White looking video
Halos around objects
Red/Orange looking video

It sounds like convergence out ICs got defective and requires replacement.
If you can do soldering work on circuit board to replace these two ICs on D board, let me know to provide you more info.

The curve of a lens is either convex or concave, that causes light to be focused depending on the direction of the curve.

So to answer your question, concave is just a bulging 'out' shape.

What follows is true for CONVEX polygons.
Let n be the number of sides of a convex polygon, and let n be greater than or equal to 4, then
The number of diagonals is given by n*(n-3)/2
Using this rule, write n*(n-3)/2=20. Clear the fraction, open brackets. You end up with n^2-3n-40=0.
Factor the polynomial or use the formulas for the quadratic equation to find the roots as n=-5 or n=8. Discard the negative root because n must be positive.

All discs read bad discs and I read that perhaps the unit needs cleaning. Can this be fixed with a CD cleaner?

I have never witnessed a CD cleaner actually working, Open the unit up and clean the lens area manually. It is convex and recessed. the laser pickup seems to attract small fibers, by static electricity, these foreign particles bend the light and prevent CD reading.

that may be because of a bad connection with the harddrive thats easy to fix you just take the harddrive out and blow the connecting surface clean then it should behave normaly agian:)

The picture is convexed,or hour glass.

Sounds like problem in B+ voltage line to horizontal output transistor. Possible bad filter capacitor or leaky diode in power supply.
